I visited for the first time today (Sat. 7/17) The pizza is delish. True NY style and enjoyed every bite. 3 stars for overall experience... The young kid taking the order unfortunately lacked in customer service & manners. Plainly put, he has a mouth on...him. He makes smart comments, & cursed a couple times to a paying customer. Maybe he wanted to "sound cool&tough". This is the kind of service that will ruin a 1st time visit, an establishment's persona & not have returning customers, regardless how good the pizza is. There will always be a good or better place for a NY style pizza, especially with customer service.More

It is kind of greasy. And kind of squalid. And the service is a bit indifferent. And the so-called dining area can trend messing. But the slice is a homerun. Definitely challenges Joe's Pizza in Greenwich Village. And that is the benchmark upon which all...slices are measured.More

I was staying a few blocks away. The staff at La Note recommended this place to me. They told me it had amazing pizza. And they were right. Not much of an atmosphere at all and you are likely to miss it if you're not...looking for it. I went back twice because the pizza was so good. No frills type of place but worth it.More

Last time I was in Berkeley my cousin and I were on the Great Western Vacation of '81. I remember walking around Berkeley and noticing a little pizza place. I was very impressed with the pizza and still remember it almost 37 years later! It's...nice to know that it's still around and if I'm ever in the Bay Area again, I would love to return. It's bringing back lots of happy memories just thinking about it!More

I'm in Morocco, where good pizza is not. I grew up with Arinell's, and think about the perfect flavor, and texture often. It is the best pizza on Earth!

Arinell's pizza has been here for quite a while. The pizza is average at best. It's NY style pizza served by hippies that looked like they haven't bathed for a while. Not the type of people I would hire if I owned a food establishment....The staff is incredibly rude as well and nasty to the customers. One day I went in and ordered 3 slices of pizza and the guy says you can't have 3 slices. I asked him why thinking he was some sort of diet coach. He said if other customers were to come in there would not be enough left for them. The place was empty and I said it's first come first serve. He said "no" and I asked for the manager who was equally rude. They ended up giving me the three slices when I threatened to put their heads in the oven lol (true story). Never get between an Italian and his pizza, even if the pizza is only average.More

I work across the street and eat here about a couple times a month. They have the best thin crust east coast style pizza that I've had in the Bay Area. Compares very favorably with the best NYC places.

Ok, this time I have left Marin on my tour, but I had a good reason. Arinell is easily the best pizza in the East Bay and I think, probably in the Bay Area. Limited toppings, but great crust and dough, excellent tomato sauce and...cheese. Simple, straightforward and lets you focus on the basic flavors of pizza as it was meant to be savored. It's as close as a NYC pizza as you can get in Northern California. Old School, but an excellent pizza! Berkeley is lucky to have it.More

In Berkeley, if you want to find Californian style pizza, you go to Cheese Board or Sliver. If you want to find authentic NYC style pizza with thin crust and heavy cheese, then go to Arinell!

This is the spot to get a quick slice of Pizza and a drink. I generally go for the NY Neopolitan Style. Mushroom is my favorite-- with extra Mushrooms. The whole pies are reasonable and delicious and good to take home.

We had been living in California for a few years, transplants from NY.We tried many Pizza places but none could stack up NY's. That is until we tried Arinell. Both their round and Sicilian pizzas are really good. We were so happy our son decided...to go to UC Berkeley, (we lived in Santa Clarita) just so we could get good pizza when visiting him. Yummy.More

I've twice gone here due to it's close vicinity to the downtown Berkeley Bart. I still don't know why I ever made the second trip. I knew after the first visit this was typical west coast pizza, which is to say very poor. If you've...been to quality pizza places out east (or northern Italy, for that matter) you'll know what I mean. I must have been too tired to go anywhere else the second time, or perhaps I just forgot, but definitely a place to avoid.More
