Found this through TripAdvisor. It's a cute diner on one of her main streets of northwest Berkeley. Waitress was helpful answering questions about the food. We ordered the lox scramble and the Mexican scramble. They cook their eggs soft so if you're not into wet scrambled eggs let them know. Everything was tasty and service was good. The two dishes... We stumbled onto the diner when visiting the local Apple store. It is located in a beautiful neighborhood of shops and restaurants. We happily took counter seats than wait 40 minutes (!) on a Monday morning. A quick review of the menu I asked the waitress her recommendation of the Buttermilk waffle or French toast. She said the Challah French... More

We stopped in for lunch. If you can get to sit at the counter with a view of the cooks' line, you will be mesmerized :) I had a grill cheese with bacon with home fries (delicious), and my BF tried the Ruben. Both were really good and the portions were generous. That's almost too bad because we had no... More

This is a cute little diner and I was able to avoid a long wait by going early on a Saturday. I'd never had a souffle pancake, so had to try it. It was good - thick and fluffy without being heavy. I opted for apple brandy, which was flavorful but not overly sweet. The coffee was good but I... More

I've been going to Bette's since the 80's and have never had a bad experience. The food is well prepared and served quickly. The juke box is a real treat with zillions of choices and costs 3 selections for 25 cents. It can be noisy but conversation can be had.

Order the soufflé pancake and thank me later. Heavenly. Omelettes were heavenly. Friendly staff. Clean. Nice neighborhood. You can't lose here. Everything is amazing.

Basic diner food in a throwback atmosphere. The souffle pancake was good but not enough to entice us back.

My friend and I needed a place for brunch on a Saturday morning. I had a list of possibilities and this was the 1st one so we gave it a try. There was a 20-30 minute wait mid-morning so we walked around the neighborhood (very cute area) while we waited. Tables are small and close together. It feels and looks... More

I enjoyed breakfast with a friend in the retro decor of Bette's. Solid breakfast/lunch menu with options in place of potatoes. Friendly service. I will return!

We stopped by on a recommendation from a friend. The buttermilk pancakes were pretty good (although not enough syrup). The scrambled eggs were done in the diner's signature way--soft. They too were good. Service was prompt and friendly. There are actually juke boxes on the counter, so lots of atmosphere.
