We stopped in for an organic egg sandwich recently which was magnificent. Fresh and tasty with the right amount of mayonnaise & seasoning. Definitely worth a try when in the area.

Although only about a 5-10 minute walk from my house, my wife and I had never ordered food from Summer Kitchen before. It was a Monday, we felt like pizza, and most of the other places we would normally go to or order from were...closed. When the order was placed we were told the food would be ready in 10 minutes. We walked over, and then waited for another 15 minutes. Apparently that night everyone on the planet felt like pizza. The pizza chef was cranking them out as fast as he could, but there was a logjam. The servers/counterstaff were very friendly and apologetic about the wait. We tried their margherita pizza with added mushrooms and their house-made fennel sausage pizza. I thought the dough was tasty, the sauce had a very nice flavor, and the quality of the ingredients was evident. I tend to like my pizzas with a firmer crust, and so next time I will order the pizza well done, or get a half-baked one and finish it off at home. If you like folding your slices, well, then their normal pizza will work well for you. We also got their house green salad, which was fine, but not special. Overall, I thought the items were a bit pricey for what you got, but the Elmwood area is a high-rent district, and it is not just the food you are paying for, it is the rent and labor. I'll just say that if you are on a budget, this may not be the best fit for you. Let me make a few other comments and suggestions that could be helpful. Although they post an online menu, it is not complete. There was a vegetable-based pizza that we might have ordered had we known about it. This may also apply to the dinner options. So when you order, if you are not thrilled by the choices, then ask if there is anything on the menu that doesn't show up on the website menu. If you plan to eat there, seating is quite limited, as are the beer and wine options. We opted to eat at home. If you are driving to pick up food, traffic and parking on College can be a nightmare, particularly from late August to mid-May when Cal is in session. I would avoid driving on College as much as possible. There is a parking lot between College and Benvenue with an entrance off of College near the corner of College and Russell. There is metered parking in this lot, and it is only a two-minute walk from the lot to Summer Kitchen. If you are ordering pizza, you may want to get a half-baked one if you have to drive far on College to get home. A fully baked pizza will be cold by the time you have suffered in the bumper-to-bumper traffic that is common from August to May.More

This is a favorite for take-out food. They have great fried chicken and tasty sandwiches. There is very small table space so it's better to take the food home or to the park. We like the egg salad sandwich and chocolate chip cookies. Their sides...are also yummy.More

We went for lunch and it was very nice. I would definitely recommend the chicken and waffles sandwich and the pizzas. It’s a very nice spot but personally I think it’s too expensive other then that though it’s a wonderful restaurant.

Great place for sandwiches or salads for lunch. Excellent choices and good quality food. Have eaten here and used take out. Both were great.

While it's a bit on the pricey side, the stuff here is good. Even a guilty pleasure like fried chicken doesn't quite feel so guilty because everything is fresh and healthy.

I had the crispy chicken sandwich which was just delicious. Good quality bread, home made pickles and crisp chicken, without being overly greasy. The restaurant is clean with large windows & a good vibe. We came at the height of lunch (on a weekend) and...sat at the counter. By the end of our meal, more tables had cleared and there was plenty of seating. It is a bit noisy so not the place for a quiet lunch but I was still able to have a conversation with my friend. I would definitely return.More

This is a one of our "go to places" after a day at the pool . They have great seasonal and evergreen salads, amazing pizza and hearty entrees. The atmosphere is extremely casual, seating is ample to tight, and can sometimes be noisy. The food...though is worth it and we've been doing take out lately which has worked out well. It is in a great location in the Elmwood neighborhood of Berkley with street parking or a lot behind the shops about a block down. There is a gelato place next door and lots of shops if you want to stroll down College.More

I have eaten her a few times and it has always been delicious. The Kale Cesar salad was perfect. The pieces of kale were coated with Parmesan and dressing but not so much that the dressing was dripping and collected in the bottom of the...dish. We ended our meal with those ‘to die for’ Chocolate Chip cookies they sell at the counter. For us it was a perfect late lunch. The staff is always polite and helpful. I recommend the small restaurant. You will not be disappointed.More
