***Berkeley Restaurant Week*** This restaurant is participating in Berkeley Restaurant Week so we chose an entree (choice of 2) off a set menu. The restaurant is set up in a typical German Beer Hall (Hofbrahaus) fashion with long tables and benches with a few four tops in a little alcove. The number of beers on tap is simply amazing. We... Was in town for a conference and saw this place on my TripAdvisor app and a good place for schnitzel and beer. It delivered both and they were incredibly delicious! Highly recommend if you are in town!

Three couples went to Gaumenkitzel to celebrate Oktoberfest. The restaurant is very warm and inviting with a festival air (high vaulted ceilings, colorful banners, beer and steins on display). We sat on the long tables by the bar which was great for conversation and food sharing. The beers we tried were all delicious (the map that came with the tasting... More

You wouldn't think that a German restaurant would be diet-friendly (in my case, Weight Watchers -- diet for life), but their arugula salad and cannellini bean soup are just the ticket for a tasty, healthy and relatively low-calorie meal. I love the friendly staff and colorful decor of the place.

Greeted at the door by the owner and chef. We had the pork schnitzel and added a side of sauerkraut. The food was fresh and delicious. Highly recommend you visit and enjoy next time you are in Berkeley.

Excellent beer selection with knowledgeable staff. Open space, nice ambiance, excellent service. Yes, it is German food but with a healthy, fresh twist. I had vegetarian pattie plate and it was so satisfying, others ordered more traditional German dishes and all were happy. Wine and beer only. Generous servings.

We came back and experienced again great German food and a very good service. The beer selection is especially outstanding as you can get brews that are even difficult to get in Germany like the Kloster Andechs. I liked the Jagerschnitzel, other in our group liked their Kasseler and the Goulasch. Overall everybody was pleased. Don't forget the Brezel as... More

Of course, there are tons of German beers and classics such us pretzel, but I came for the Schnitzel and Spätzle. I love Schnitzel, and I love Spätzle. I also often cook it at home, so I was very curious, if Berkeley really has a great German eatery. It does. Wow, it was wonderful! Usually, I'm not very much into... More

The restaurant was nice and the service was good. I started with the Butternut/Apple soup and that was very good. But unfortunately, the goulash was disappointing. I think my dish contained maybe 2-3 small chunks of meat and the overall taste was quite bland - nothing like what goulash should taste like. (I was just in Berlin and the Czech... More

We normally don't choose German restaurants when eating out. They have a lovely variety of vegetarian choices in addition to their regular menu. The food is very fresh and innovative. My husband ordered the fish special and said it was delicious. My vegetarian dish was wonderful and I look forward to my next meal there.
