Two of us had an early dinner on a Saturday evening before going to a Zellerbach Hall concert on the UC campus. Luckily we had reservations, because the place filled up fast. We asked for outside seating, so we did not really see what the...inside looked like, although it seemed as if the bar area was hopping. They have very nice outside seating, albeit you are right off Shattuck Av. Still we did not think the ambient noise/traffic was at all bad. We shared our meal, and were very happy with it. The bean soup in a lite tomato broth was very tasty and our grilled branzino was really quite good (and pretty large for a branzino, too). Service was reasonably prompt (I am guessing they're a bit short staffed) and was friendly. We would recommend this place.More

This is turning out to be one of our favorite go-to places for outdoor dining in Berkeley. Well set-up and attentive. The ambient noise from the street is a drag but other wise all is well. The food is well-prepared and served hot, and reasonably...priced.More

Enjoyed a great meal at Agrodolce, a place that we happened upon while walking down Shattuck on a visit from SF. We sat outdoors and enjoyed the bread service, the calamari starter was excellent, pasta dishes were also flavorful, my partner had the famous ragu...and I had the sardines and bucatini, both dishes were flavorful, rich and satisfying. Our server was very charming and friendly, she recommended a great glass of sparking rose. Prices were very reasonable, we'll definitely be back when we're in Berkeley, thank you!More

Maybe that the pandemic has required places to up their game, or perhaps not being quite so busy, but this visit was much improved from the last time around, in food quality and service. Thanks.

Enjoyable dinner outside for five. It took a while to place our food orders and get wine for guests who arrived late. (That's a no-no: we should not have to deal with a potential wine emergency!) One of our guests ordered a non-alcoholic cocktail, and...she was surprised when it arrived with alcohol. It also took the staff a while to respond to our request to turn on the heat lamps, for the chilly evening. That explains why I did not give a four-star rating. I did not give two stars because I felt the food was good, average, consistent Italian, we enjoyed ourselves, and the slower-than-normal pace was not a big deal. I personally would explore other restaurants in Berkeley before returning to this one. In a pinch, it was suitable.More

We have been regulars at Caffe Sport in the city, but they have sold the restaurant and the new owners have destroyed the quality. I ran into one of the family members and she told me about their restaurant in Berkeley, so had to give...it a try. And we were not disappointed. My wife had the Arrabiata and it was excellent...compares to the sauce we had in Roma. I tried their boss of the sauce award winner, and it was excellent as well. The flavors are unmistakable from regular Italian Restaurants, which I noticed from the get go. If you crave Sicilian food, from a family owned restaurant, then come here. Highly recommended.More

So disappointed! It's bad when the portions are micro small but when the owner lies about something like the beer. Case in point! most real quality authentic Italian restaurants should have at least 1 or 2 real brewed Italian beers on draft (Most beer distributors...carry them) either Birra Moretti, Moretti for short or PERONI NASTRO AZZURRO or Peroni for short. I asked the owner if he carried ether in draft and he said Moretti. Great! He brings it over and it is amber in color, not the traditional lighter hue. I knew it was NOT Moretti! I took a sip and was lagunitas IPA. Why lie to a customer!! The food Ugh. I had the specialty Meatball in Pasta. The just 2 meatballs were the size of a golf ball. NOT like a baseball or larger which it should be if that is your specialty dish! And the portions were so small! Felt like it was Microwaved to boot! Stay clear of this clip joint.More

Average overall, though lots of room to improve upon, especially in the service. Even with reservations, had to wait 30+ minutes. With the exception of Jerry/Angelo, staff are robotic, no eye contact, no smile, and only act upon request (water, bread, utensils). Staff spilled a...full dish of olive oil and splattered our jackets. Other than "i'm sorry", no other compensation. I asked for another single piece of bread, but was told they were out, but as we exited the restaurant, I notice a full plate of bread headed towards the staff's table for their nightly meal. Interesting. Food was good, not great yet. Biggest weakness is the service. Overall, the previous location on College Ave, was much better in service, quality, experience, etc.More

Very disappointing. DO NOT GO HERE. Terrible service. Heavy handed and unsubtle cuisine in every way. Sadly, we had a cancelled reservation in the wine country, so we were searching locally. Since Trattoria Corso is closed, we tried this place. BIG MISTAKE. The bread and...oil were OK, as were the fried appetizers (fritto misto and fried zucchini flowers). Also the ravioli with mushrooms was ok. But the salad was pathetically awful (insalate cela, or something like that) -- poorly dressed greens tossed with some pickled anchovies and some parmigiano. And the worst thing was the much ballyhooed sugo maiale (pappardele with pork sugu). It was truly uninspired. Tough pieces of pork and an uninteresting tomato sauce slathered over some wide noodles. Truly the worst pappardelle of my experience. To summarize: terrible service (we had to ask 6 times for the bill, and finally walked in to the register to pay it); terrible salad; poor pasta. What can I say: DO NOT GO HERE. You will do better opening a can of ragu and cooking some pasta at home.More

We had a very good dinner at Agrodolce on the patio. Service was stellar. We started with cocktails and tuna carpaccio. We enjoyed pasta for dinner - We both liked ours. I had the mushroom ravioi. They serve very good complementary bread. We had cannoli's...for dessert. We had a nice alcoholic coffee drink (cold) with it. It was very good. We will be back. We made our reservations on Open Table.More

Enjoyed a good wine with great bread and olive oil marinade. Pasta special was very average with some of the described flavors missing. Might be worth a second rip to choose a better dish... At opening, staff a bit scattered but friendly.

The food was delicious but this time around there were under-staffed and over-whelmed with patrons and the result was slow and poor service. We'll wait a bit but return because the starters Melezane Impanata and salumi agrodolce were grand, as was the Ragu D'Maiale and...Ravoli Porcini. They were out of the promised cannoli and the substituted flan was just average.More

There are quite a few good restaurants on Shattuck in berkeley. For some particular reason this place never seems packed. It’s not because of the food or service which is great. I’m concerned about giving it a good rating. Then people will go and it...won’t be my go to place with a short wait. What’s good? Fritto Misto. The porchetta, salads and antipasti. And of course pasta. Their wine selection is god too.More

I've been to Agrodolce Osteria several times and aways have had an outstanding meal. It's an Osteria and often busy and noisy with lots going on--but that is how it should be. The food is robust and full of flavor, but not delicate. The menu...is organized in the traditional Italian way, but the individual dishes are distinctly Sicilian. On my last visit I was alone and ate at the bar. I had Caponata Agrodolce as first course (vinegared sautéed eggplant, caramelized onions, celery, and other vegies mixed with wonderful olives and drenched in exquisite olive oil) and a Ragu di Maiale (slow roasted pork with other meats and vegetables in a tomato sauce) served over house made pasts. It was a lot of food, well flavored and satisfying. I left happy.More

I really missed some homemade pasta here, not to mention even a homemade ragu. Reminded me of Prego from Safeway...
