This a great place to stop

This a great place to stop if you’re driving on the 99. It’s only about 5 minutes off the highway. The street parking is fairly available depending on what time you arrive. I am not from Bakersfield so I can’t tell if it’s a safe area or not but in the daytime it seems like a safe area?? Service: Very friendly and helpful! Food: pretty good. The beans were tasty. The rice could be improved. But maybe they aren’t using lard etc so in that case it’s pretty good given the healthy ingredients. Highlight was the crispy chicken tacos. Low light was the salsa - it’s not very flavorful. Price: moderately priced, maybe on the expensive end. I will definitely visit again when driving through Bakersfield.

Absolutely amazing! 10/10!

We went their pretty late but they still served us. The waiter was amazing from the start on! He recommended meals according to our preferences which we took and it was totally worth it - 10/10 points. All in all, fantastic food, amazing service - I would not hesitate to eat there again!

Probably the best Mexican food

Probably the best Mexican food I have ever had. So happy we ran into this place. Outdoor seating available. Service was great. The mole was the best I’ve had and I work in a Hispanic neighborhood in Chicago. The chiles and spices in that mole are insane. The ceviche was incredible as well. Fish tacos were cooked and grilled to perfection. They don’t just batter the fish... they get good quality fish and just grill with some gentle seasonings and top it with good cilantro and onion. Wish this was closer to me.

Something is not right with the ratings

Stopped here on the way to Yosemite based upon the reviews and I was shocked to how average the place was - maybe below average. First off, the place is pretty small with no AC as far as I could tell - looked like a converted garage and home. No big deal as long as the food is good, right? Well the food was WAY overpriced and comparable to a lesser version of an El Torito IMO. It was okay but totally forgettable. My daughter ordered milk and the milk they server her had soured. How does that happen? Anyway, dont fall for the hype and enjoy Taco Bell at 20% of the price and equal quality.

Food is really good. Ambiente is good. I’ve gone for years. But new pricing is too much. I always get the mariscos poblano. It used to cost around $15-$17. Now it is over $25! I’m sorry but rice beans and a few shrimp with green sauce shouldn’t cost that in Bakersfield. I’ll go back, but unfortunately probably only once a year.

Great meal - nice find

My wife and I stopped on an ungodly long ride from LV to Stockton for lunch on a Monday afternoon. Great food and fair service on a busy lunch hour. I do agree with the cost objections I read previously. We split street tacos with two soft drinks and it was $31 at lunch.

Excellent Food but Poor Service

Our family ate here and loved the food. It was authentic and freshly made. Lots of great options on the menu. I had the chicken mole which was very good. Tortillas were homemade and were also excellent. I deducted a point from their rating due to poor service. Our server (Patricia, I think) was horrible and borderline rude. The other server (woman with a tattooed arm) and Chris (man who works the counter) took care of us when she couldn’t be bothered. Overall, though, the service was bad. It’s a shame that a restaurant with such good foods tolerates such bad service.

Amazing food and service

Amazing meal. Fantastic service. Good price. I had the carne asada entre and the ceviche tostada appetizer. Both were amazing. The steak was cooked and seasoned to perfection. Even the rice and beans were great. And the chips and salsa, they were perfect. Service was fast and friendly. COVID 19 safety precautions were perfect. Everyone was wearing a mask when they should have been.

Excellent Food & Service

We thoroughly enjoyed our meal. It was nice to have authentic tasting Mexican food. We had the nachos, which were very good and big enough for a large family to share. The chicken tacos were great! The chicken was very flavorful and tender. The tortillas were amazing as well. We also tried the chili relleno, which was also very tasty! This was a great find. The staff was very attentive as well. Would definitely return!

Great Food and Service

Great food, great service. I grew up in Texas and I know good Mexican food, this place was just as good as any place I’ve had. I had the Caldo Tlalpeño and it was spot on! Definitely Authentic Mexican Food! The staff was friendly and the ambiance was nice. If I’m ever in Bakersfield again I will eat here again.

Great authentic food

We stopped for lunch traveling to Sacramento. Although we didn't have any there is a good seafood menu available. The chili relleno was delicious. My partner was very happy with his dish. Good chips and great salsa. The setting was a bit rustic and seemed to be a house renovated into a restaurant. Service was friendly attentive. Good all around place. Wish it was in my neighborhood!

Delish and innovative

I was delighted to find this restaurant when passing through Bakersfield. The platanos taco was amazing! The service was friendly. This restaurant has an imaginative and skilled chef. Wish I lived closer and could return regularly.

True Mexican food!!

If you are looking for true Mexican flavor, this is the place! The chili relleno was more than amazing. From the warm chips to the salsa, all was fabulous. Don't be put off by the small outside. Wish we lived closer, would be our first choice for true Mexican food!!

Delicious!!

Found on TA, of course. Thank you, TA of course. Drove three miles off the freeway for it. Looks tiny from the outside. Don't let either of those things put you off. A series of rooms, each funkier than the last. Warm and attentive service. I had the vegetarian enchiladas. Just outstanding. Their salsa is also really, really good. Worth the drive!

one of those pleasant surprises that can happen on a road trip.

well this was a surprise, and worth a review. stopped in Bakersfield this trip and sought out a place within walking distance of our hotel. ratings were good, so why not, a great welcome: staff is friendly and attentive. food was very good. a very good experience. we noticed a lot of apparent regulars coming in with an appropriate welcome. heck, if we lived in Bakersfield, we be regulars too! we'll be back if ever we pass this way again. might be worth the trip.
