We had a stop over at Bakersfield on our way to Death Valley and Las Vegas. We had dinner at Fred's BBQ Factory. The food is excellent fresh and genuine, delicious. We had a family pack 3# and a cheese burger all perfectly grilled. The...Tri-tips are awesome. A whole lotta meat to eat. The owner and his family are very friendly and offer good hospitality. Service was good and the food was fresh. While there are many things on the menu which drift away from the BBQ side of the business.....Order bbq. I tried the tri-tip boat and while it was good the meat was fantastic.

it has been awhile since i have eaten here, it was still at the ice house then. Decent ribs, sauce was strong. glad i got it on the side. beans had a spice that was overpowering. not sure what it was. would prefer that the...roll was warm. small stuff, but overall, pretty good, order at the counter, then have a seat. they'll bring it to you.More

Had a slight advantage to know the best place to go nearby, as I resided in Bakersfield for 60 years, and as I hoped the food was still great. The atmosphere is casual but easy; staff friendly and helpful; but the best BBQ in Bakersfield.

I was in the area on business and used Yelp to find a place for dinner. I knew the area and Fred's was new to me, so I tried it. It was clear that some customers were regular fans and the grill out front had...ribs and chicken cooking. I tried a combo plate with chicken and beef with scallop potatoes and a salad on the side. Great price for fast and home cooked dishes. The atmosphere was very casual with 4+ TVs playing, half in English and half in Spanish. The tables and chairs were sparse, cheap and functional. Everything was self service but they do bring out your food. The meal was satisfactory but not great. The beef was overcooked and tasteless. The chicken was tasty yet a little dry. Both needed sauce but the one provided was nothing special in any way. The potatoes were warm, but again, not much in the way of flavor. The salad was simple greens.More

I walked in while they were closing up around 8PM. The staff and mgr were great to gather whatever food they had for me. I got a slab each of Baby Back and St. Louis ribs, chicken, hot links and the Basque style sausage. They...gave me a great deal, and at ate for 2 days. The ribs were decently tender, but not fall-off-the-bone. Chicken was extremely juicy and well-seasoned. The hot links were mild, but good snap and well cooked. The Basque style sausage was a bit more dry but great spice. Their BBQ sauce is great for dipping, not extremely spicy but great tanginess.More

They grill their meat outside of the front door on a large open wood pit. All of the meats are tender and full of flavor. The sides are large and well prepared. Their salads with grilled meats are fantastic.

We stopped here for lunch because we wanted something BBQy. As we drew near the 'Factory' we could smell the hot links cooking on the outside grill. The aroma was tantalizing, so we marched up to the counter and ordered. The plates were piled high...with goodies; the coleslaw is agreeable, the pork beans are very tasty, the links are zingy, and the burgers are delicious. Spend some time here and you'll find it's a relaxed place for a satisfying meal.More

Fred's is one of the few places in town where you can see them bbq'ing the food on the outdoor grill. They have chicken, tri-top, ribs, salads, etc. lots of choices
