About
That's right, everything is local and fresh. You won't find freezers or leftovers in our kitchens. Our olive oil is hand picked, dried and cold-pressed from the family's olive orchards in northern Jordan. All herbs and spices are locally grown. Our furnishings, the tables, aprons and dishes—are all local products, manufactured especially for the Petra Kitchen in local carpentry shops and cooperatives. For millennia, Petra has been at the heart of the world’s spice trade, and the far-flung origins of many of our spices reflect a local sophistication with exotic imported seasonings. We continue this tradition in Petra Kitchen to this day.

If you want to have a fun night out when in Petra, I recommend going to Petra Kitchen. When you enter, you will see a row of seats for people who came for the night's cooking event and a set of immaculately clean working tables. Guests go to the tables to begin doing food preparation after an introduction to the concept of the place. The work done by the guests is mainly chopping food and mixing items together for dishes. Interaction abounds along with the instructions. Much of the cooking for the main dishes was done by the professional cooks there. While we watched them, the working tables - pretty messy after our efforts - were transformed into clean dining room tables. The food was excellent. They serve no wine but, on request, the manager went to a store to get wine for those wanting it with the meal. At the end of the meal, everyone receives a booklet with the menus for everything we ate. The whole experience was a great delight.

Loved the cooking class & we were lucky only 4 of us that day , which gave us a great chance to really get involved with each dish. You all eat together once the cooking is done. Made a selection of both hot and cold mezze, a soup, the star dish , which was a rice and chicken dish and some delicious arayes. Chef was funny and smiling throughout. Surprise of warm Arabic dessert served to us but I was much too full by then so they kindly packed it away for me to takeaway.

If you like to cook some of your dinner, this is the place for you. There were about 2 dozen people attending. We all got to help prepare several courses of the meal we later got to eat. The whole experience was well managed. It was evident that The Petra Kitchen has done this with many groups. We had a lot of fun, and the food was very good.

We ate here as part of our tour. I did not like how they mixed us with other groups, especially with the ongoing concerns. It really was not what I expected, I peeled and cut a carrot, chopped 2 cloves of garlic and diced a tomato. The food was good in the end, but overall it was too crowded to see what was going on with the the aspects of the meal. I did not get much out of the experience. They also did not have enough seats at our assigned table for our group for the dinner so some had to eat elsewhere. We were jammed in the table as it was and they kept bumping into us every time they had to get a soft drink from the refrigerator.

Petra Kitchen cooking class was an excellent opportunity to learn a bit about the local culture while enjoying a great meal with interesting travelers. While the classes are fairly large, each table was a small group led by an individual chef. Everyone participated in making each of the dishes and we all got to enjoy the great meal we made together afterwards. The owner greeted us and was involved in making sure everything ran smoothly. Don't worry about going during Ramadan. The class times accommodate everything and the staff are able to share their cultural heritage while working with you. Altogether a great experience to enhance our time at Petra.

The kitchin is just up the hill from the main Petra entrance. A really good concept... cook local dishes and then eat them! Following arrival everyone was given apron and gloves and a drink. It was explained that there would be several local cold dishes, some hot main dishes and some deserts. We were split into small groups and each on produced one example of the three courses. Each group was directed by an in-house chef. The tasks were well supervised and conducted with the right degree of humour. Plating up was also undertaken in preparation for the best bit - eating. A really good, proactive experience for "cooks" of all levels. At the end of the evening recipe menus were provided to take away with you to enable you to experience the food again at home.

I wonderful way to explore Middle Eastern cuisine!! Chef R and his crew were charming, instructive, inclusive, and made you feel like you were at home but with more knowledge and better equipment. Truly unique experience, highly recommend it to everyone, foodies included!!

My first cooking school experience... it was wonderful! The chefs were very friendly and took the time to show and explain how to cut the ingredients and what they were. Then we all sat down to a very delicious meal.... so much food! What a memorable experience. I highly recommend doing this!

What a fun evening. Plus educational. Wonderful supportive staff guided us through chopping, slicing and juicing ingredients for the meal - soup, cold mezza, hot mezza and kofta. Then surrounded by our group, we ate the meal amongst much laughter and talking. Thanks staff of Petra Kitchen.

The chef was really fun and explained everything right. The menu we made was diversed. Everyone got a task to do and together you made the mail. After the cook, we ate it together. We even got a dessert and coffee/tea afterwards and we got the recipe of all the dishes we made.

We were tired after our 5 hour walk in Petra in 40c temperatures 🥵 But as soon as we entered the kitchen the energy and greeting was uplifting 😂 Chef Reda, Miechie & Ibrahim we’re great. They were professional and lots of fun. The fresh produce was ready on arrival and we got straight into it. We prepared six dishes in record time and then enjoyed eating them all 😋 By far the best food in Petra this evening cooked by the amazing Mowat family 👌🫣 Highly recommended this evening activity. Thanks again to the Petra Kitchen Team 🙏🎉

Had a fantastic time cooking, learning and dining at The Petra Kitchen. It was amazing to see how easily a few basic, locally-sourced ingredients can be transformed into a delicious variety of dishes. The chefs were friendly, patient and willing to share their skills and knowledge with us. Highly recommended for a truly authentic Jordanian experience! Yum!

I was travelling solo and decided to join this experience to learn how to cook Jordanian food and learn more about their awesome culture. In addition to me there was an american group of 4 people with a guide, which we all do the experience together, and was a great experience all in all to be able to share this with other people from other places. The cooks and staff was very kind and knowledgeable. I enjoyed learning the different spices, receipts and explanations about the different dishes. And at the end we enjoyed what was cooked which was delicious from the starters to the dessert. I really recommend the experience!

Our family of 4 had a great time learning how to prepare several Jordanian/Mediterranean/Middle Eastern dishes. The food was plentiful and we were stuffed at the end. Our only suggestion would be to substitute one of the cold/salad-type dishes for something else (like another hot dish or a dessert). Something more challenging or a bit less well-know.

A really fun evening. There were about 30 of us of several nationalities although English was the language used. The menu comprised soup, cold & hot mezze, a main dish & dessert - dietary requirements were catered for. All ingredients & cooking equipment were arranged on the tables ready for food preparation. We split into groups of 8-10 to prepare several of the dishes, each group under the instruction of a chef. There was good chat and laughter whilst working; chefs were fun, calm & helpful. Took about an hour. Then tables were cleared & cleaned, set for dinner & we sat down to eat - groups mixed up again. As we ate, we compared travel stories & experiences of Jordan. V friendly atmosphere. The food was plentiful & particularly delicious because we had made it. Would highly recommend for something different to take away as a holiday experience. We are sure we will cook some of these dishes again at home. Thank you Petra Kitchen
