We spent a delightful evening by the fire, listening to the crackling (they actually had hams in the fireplace slowly smoking with herbs and a proper fire going) and tasing the local ales. Dinner was absolutely fantastic. There was no fault with the service or the food. The menu is well balanced so it can be as cheap or as... More

We were recommended here for lunch after visiting Stowe House nearby. The completely restored pub has been extended so it provides for pub drinking and eating. It did not disappoint. The decor is very stylish and a lot of effort has gone into making it a little bit special. The kitchen is very visible and central to the operation. We... More

A midweek lunch to celebrate an anniversary. The great things were pleasant service, delicious chicken liver parfait with toasted sourdough and a risotto with local asparagus (a very generous serving ) . However the gooseberry and ginger fool was not a fool. The poached gooseberries, and ginger were layered in a sundae glass with thick cream and were too rich and... More

We had a family lunch over the Easter weekend in the restaurant. We were all very impressed with the quality of the food - the burrata, calamari, Cote de Boeuf for 2 people and rack of lamb were especially good. Not the cheapest place to eat in the area, but worth the money on this occasion. Well done to the... More

The gorgeous setting of Hethe village is the perfect backdrop to the most fabulous pub. lunch with friends in the comfortable dining room after drinks at the bar. Excellent service, very attentive and informed. Great menu to cover most palettes. Meat, fish and vegetarian dishes served well with a good choice of side dishes. Very much the choice for discerning... More

The Muddy Duck could be amazing....the owner's vision and aspiration for this potentially superb bar & restaurant is clear....unfortunately let down by poor management, badly trained staff (again poor overall management) and what can be very variable food. If only....this could be one of those amazing country pub/ restaurants...sadly it's gone down hill over the last couple of years...feels like... More

We have eaten at the Muddy Duck on a number of occasions; in the bar, garden and restaurant and found the food to be good if expensive for what is essentially a gastro pub. However following our visit on Mothers Day we will not be eating here again. My son and I ordered a pork rib eye with chips and... More

The Muddy Duck is a pub and restaurant located in the pretty village of Hethe, just north of Bicester. You can’t miss us – we’re slap bang in the beating heart of Hethe, next door to the Church of St. Edmund and St. George and just 4 miles from M40 junction 10. We love that all things British and traditional are making a revival, so whether in the bar or the restaurant, our food is an honest and inspiring blend of time-honoured favourites, with a creative MD twist. No short cuts, no ping-and-ding, no frozen – all fresh and cooked to order. The only thing that comes out of our freezer is our ice-cream and that's made in-house too. Through and through we’re about free-range, high welfare, sustainability, local or British produce if it’s best or at its best – and if not, we’re not ashamed to source from further afield, because quality is what counts. We keep favourite real ales and regularly have a few starring guests too and run an extensive wine list and like to encourage punters to try something different, so our cellar range is particularly good value.
