Restaurant Gostilna Theodosius is located in a small village Vrhpolje, 2 km away from Vipava. The capacity of our restaurant is up to 50 people. In the summertime we pamper you on the terrace overlooking the Vipava Valley. In our kitchen, we prepare seasonal dishes such as wild asparagus, mushrooms, fresh truffles, pumpkin dishes, Vipava beef like fiorentina, tagliata, homemade dried meat products. With the selected food we also pamper you with top wines from the Vipava Valley.

It was a truly lovely meal and one of the highlights of our trip in Slovenia.
This place was recommended to us by a gentleman in a winery down the road, so we stopped there at Sunday lunchtime on the off chance there would be space and happily (for us anyway) a cancellation meant there was a table.
The food was creative fine dining, with a focus on local ingredients (including cherries from their own tree) but relatively affordable (5 course tasting menu was under €50). Service was friendly and the waiter recommended some excellent local wines that went well with the dishes. All of this was consumed sitting outside in the shade on the terrace, next to their small orchard with vineyards in the distance.
If you are in the area, definitely stop here it is worth a visit!

We were sleeping across the street so it was really convenient to go to Theodosius for a dinner. Indeed, it was the right choice. All the meals were really, really good and the staff was.. out of this planet good. Super, super friendly, always subtly present and aware of the situation outside. I'm a big chocoholic and they didn't have any chocolate desserts but in the end, they brought me some chocolate :) Also we got served double second (yes, pastry lovers:)) dessert because they figured we really liked that serving. Some rounds on the house at the end, and I'm really looking forward to going back there every time I'm passing Vipava valley. Atmosphere is lovely, especially during the sunset.

My wife and I stopped for lunch based on a recommendation from a restauranteur in Vipava who was closed that Tuesday. That in itself says a lot. The atmosphere is rustic, warm and they had a wood-fire burning! The staff was extremely friendly and accomodating. The menu includes some great homemade (and handmade) local specialties. Apparently they grow a variety of their produce and fruit around the house. There is something for everyone on the menu. All in all, it was a truly fantastic and yummy lunch! p.s. There is an alluring luxury glamping campus in the forest just across the road. It looked really nice from the parking lot! We are already thinking of combining that with the restaurant for a romantic weekend getaway! ;)
We had pumpkin soup, slow-cooked pork belly with crackling, handmade tortellini with trout filling and a big salad bowl dressed with homemade vinegar and some of the best olive oil on the planet. We tried both their red and white cuvee wines which were both great.

I think that I have not eaten such a good tartare steack ever. I do not mention the trout carpacio with some orange taste! Just an amazing experience!
If you are a wine lover as I am, then you will be happy to enjoy very good valley wines!

Gorgeous food and great service - we were woefully underdressed but nobody cared. Our kids loved it and so did we. We’ll be back next time!

My first time here, I didn`t know it exist., even if I live close by. Found through TripAdvisor, Nice ambience, but maybe a little too cold for my taste. Friendly and helpful staff. We chose a tasting 5 course menu. Very satisfied with the food, great tastes, homemade local food in a more modern way. A large selection of local wines from Vipava valley. Not really cheap, but worth it.. An interesting experience.

Waiter is very kind,but...there was no texture,everything is mixed on the plate..there is no textures,with that I mean that on the plate there are many different ingredients but you cannot feel all ingrefients separatelly they are all mixed...as a dish for children; mixed. Pumpkin soup was tasteless,...a lot to work..bur we have seen that they want to be something more..but...they should change a lot of things...and time is not on their side. But we think that they have some ideas..and to do some more ,they have to "train: a lot, in a kitchen of course

We stayed right opposite to the restaurant so we thought we will try it out and we are not disappointed! The service was excellent, wine were great, main courses (lamb and pork chop) were excellent and cooked to perfection. We sat outside and it was romantic. I give it 4 out of 5 because we found the bread to be really salty and our appetizers (mozzarella salad and deer tartare) were quite bland. Desserts were just ok not very tasty either. Maybe we ordered the wrong thing.

A great place to eat with family and friends. My wife and I ate here whilst staying at the forest lodge opposite. Food was reasonably priced very tasty! The owners were more than accommodating - even offered big spray as my wife was concerned about being bitten by mosquitoes.

We have visited Theodosius restaurant on 6 August for dinner. The atmosphere was inviting, the waiter knowledgeable and served us a feast of locally sourced food accompanied by a great selection of wine. The service was fantastic and we have loved the care provided by the staff. We had thoroughly enjoyed it and would highly recommend it as a must visit restaurant in the area. Everything was absolutely fantastic, experience we have already shared with our friends.

The meat we've had (beef tagliata and lamb) was alright but far from truly good. Beef was qute veiny and hard, while lamb was chewy. Highlight of the whole visit was the appetizer with truffles. The service was not especially friendly and the request to get some tap water before wine was commented with the silent eye roll. Not regretting the visit but definitely not coming back there.

This is a lovely relaxing restaurant, a bit out of the way, but worth finding.
It is run by the very attentive owners. Fresh, local produce, interesting dishes.Good wine.
Not cheap but very good value considering the effort put into every dish.
