We planned on doing a hike close to the Dutch-Belgian border. We left early and were too lazy to take along food and drinks. Arriving around noon we were looking for a restaurant, but these small villages are deserted, apart from a church, NOTHING, no...backery, no pharmacy, no nothing, welcome in Wallifornia...
Then out of the blue we saw a small billboard announcing food and drinks, we were saved !
To our astonishment the owner (Willem) welcomed us in Dutch. We received a menu card in Dutch (he has others...) and the card had a wealth of choice. We went for the menu of the house that turned out to be excellent, with home made fries and a very special fresly made mushroom soup, accompanied by home made spicy gaerlic herb butter.
Pricing was very OK, and when we mentioned we were there for a hike in our small talk, Willem the owner promptly came up with two documents with fully detailed hikes. We choose one and he even gave hints about possible closed gates on that track.
Two hours later we arrived back at our car, that was still parked (free) in front of the restaurant and we went back for some hot chocolate and a restroom visit. Restrooms were huge and clean.
Upon leaving I mentioned I was a Tripadvisor adept, and warned him I would write a review :-)
Hey you people at Tripadvisor, can somebody do me a favour and send this guy a sticker to put on his window. he lives at the end of the world and I don't know how many reviews he needs to get a sticker but compared to restaurants in cities this is unfair. The guy DESERVES a nice sticker, he has a great restaurant, good food, good pricings and great added services. So please...
