People we know in Mexico City warned us about the restaurants around the pyramids- they said that many had buffet lines with recycled food and at best mediocre food as they catered to buses and van loads of tourists.
Our guide took us to Meztli...Grill, and we were so glad he did. There were a few cars, no buses. An casual place with indoor and outdoor tables, run by a young couple- he waits tables, she cooks- the food was unique and very well done. Off the menu there is often a pork shank in adobo which our friend, a very good cook, proclaimed the best he's had. Ask to see if they have it.
We really recommend this place- great food, no tour buses, a personable couple (he worked in a restaurant in San Francisco for years before returning to his home in the area)More
Our tour guide brought us to this unassuming cute and colorful restaurant right behind the Pyramid of the Moon. We ordered the dishes recommended to us- the adobo (Chamorro), the pescado Vera Cruz ( my fave), the cactus salad (nopales) and the Mexican caviar (ant...eggs). They were all delicious! An authentic Mexican meal. Pricey though, it was the most expensive meal we had during our visit. However, the service was excellent. They were all attentive and made us very comfortable. Colorful setting. Clean bathroom.More

This place was outstanding and was highly recommended by our guide. Food and services where fantastic, we ordered a variety of food and drink and we were surprised on how good and fresh everything tasted. If you are near this place it is very worth...it. Saludos!More
We had a very nice meal in this restaurant behind the Pyramid of the Moon at the ancient city of Teotihuacan. The patio was shady and comfortable, with colorful table linens and decor. We followed suggestions to have local delicacies, like ant eggs, Nopales (cactus)...salad, and Fish Veracruz, knowing that these were the more expensive items on the menu - but enjoying the opportunity to try these specialties. All our dishes were freshly prepared and very tasty. The owner was hospitable, and we enjoyed our relaxing, filling meal there despite the higher cost.
Note: We were the only guests at this time, while large busloads of tourists were parked outside other restaurants nearby. We were very glad to have had eaten in these peaceful surroundings.More
Our guide’s favorite place. We agree. There are several other restaurants adjacent where you can sit with huge tour group. We had a lovely quiet meal here. We tried the Mexican caviar (ant eggs), as much for the novelty as anything else. It was interesting...but pricy. 300 pesos. I had the recommended steak which came with guacamole, frijoles, baked cheese, and cactus. Everything was delicious. Mrs had the huachinango Veracruz which was also very tasty ( but only came with rice.). Owner was our server and was very pleasant and spoke excellent English. Only minor complaint would be my margarita was very weak, with little tequila. I’m sure I could have asked for, and gotten, a little more to be splashed in but didn’t bother. Highly recommended.More
Can't say it's the best meal I had in Mexico but this was quite good and honest for being in the middle of a tourist-only zone. The owner was super friendly and welcoming and speaks excellent English. Nice outdoor sitting area and relatively calm, no...obnoxious music or tourist excesses intruding on a quiet meal.
Food was solidly prepared; excellent guacamole, good enchiladas. Nothing special or unique but all quite good. (The owner is proud to offer some pre-Hispanic foods like grasshoppers, ant eggs, etc which could be fun if you're in the right mood). Margaritas, cold beer, micheladas. All at tourist prices but all well made to satisfy a tourist visiting the pyramids.
There's about 10 places similar to this on the road around the archaeological site and I can't say we sampled them all. I do trust our guide when he said this was the one he thinks was best for us.More
Given the fairly remote if highly touristed area, this place is really good. Service was superb, the drinks well made and the food was top notch. Fish Veracruz, margaritas, steak all good. Slightly pricey, but well worth the stop.
This restaurant is located directly behind the Pyramid of the Moon (you need to drive to get there, not walk behind the pyramid - there's a fence).
Anyways, the service and food was great. This was one of our favourite meals while in Mexico. We...got the Mix Plate and Chicken Fajitas - delicious! Loved it.More
