Do specify if you want hot/medium or mild. The owner is always around to ensure that food ordered is of high standard. Curries served with charcoal burners at base which keeps food piping hot.
Avoid the continental food, Fries were oily not good. But chicken Tikka and chicken mukini were excellent, well balanced on spices. Chilli Nan was also very good.
We lucky found this place and been back 4 times already in 10days!! The curry is as close to India as you will find! Pascal was our waiter who recommend all the best dishes and was very nice and friendly also. If you like great...food don’t miss out on coming here. 10/10More
At home in Scotland I am a huge fan of Indian food and in fact I cook it well too. I have been in this restaurant many times and I use the adjoining supermarket to get the spices I need for my own holiday adventures...in self catering. There is a wide variety of traditional dishes, well cooked and very tasty and it is a nice touch that you are always asked how spicy you like it. Mr and Mrs Gurminder have become friends, and I usually bring him black Cardamoms. I make jokes about his supermarket being on the Spice Road and having to rely on a Scotsman having to bring supplies from Edinburgh. However he compensates for having the best range of Single malt Scotch Whisky in the neighbourhood. Of course, I only go for the food.....HonestMore
The food was very good, nice prices and very good service. We'll definitely go back! A very nice restaurant close to Diani Reef.
My boyfriend and I went to Shan E Pubjab for dinner on a Friday night. We got a tuk tuk from our hotel down the road and we were so glad to have ventured out by the end of the evening. We ordered 2 popadoms...each and received a number of pickles and dips, which were all delicious. We also ordered the murgh makani and the mutton masala. Both were absolutely delicious and they were able to tailor the spice to our liking. With this, we had some garlic naan and onion rice. We were full by the end and content that we had ordered the perfect amount. With the meal, we had 2 gin and tonics and 2 beers and the total (including VAT and service) came to 3500 shillings, which we thought was reasonable considering how full we were, the nice ambience and the delicious food. It’s been on the slightly more expensive side compared to other meals we have had in the area but also one of the best. Very recommended!More
Mr. Gurminder hosted us very well and shared his local experience with us. We had already met him and his delightful wife at his supermarket earlier The beer temperature is perfect - if you like your lager you know what is too hot or too...cold! We could not enjoy his food as we were on a board package with our hotel but if you order anything even starters you get a lovely plate of pickles. We took some Swiss friends across (you know they only like cheese with holes) and they are going to go again so don't panic if you cannot cope with spice - ask for mild Mr G is a gem of a person and very welcoming. Ambiance was plain but great to get out of heat. Service was friendly and very helpful. Food was excellent. We had mutton, chicken, vegetarian and briyani dishes. All excellently done
While some reviews of this restaurant are negative I had very positive experience. The soup, the sauces, the curries were all delicious. I ate there with an Indian friend who also enjoyed it. I would definitely return.
My colleague enjoyed his vegetarian meal, however my prawn masala left a lot to be desired. Dry and overcooked shrimp (not prawns), definitely not freshly cooked as we were advised by the owner. Ambiance is very run down and in need of serious redecorating.
For the mid to high end price ranges, it was completely not worth it. We ordered the mushroom sauce, fish tikka and naan for dinner. The fish tikka was not fresh and we essentially left most of it, the mushroom sauce was comparatively better but...still bland and the naan was alright at best as far as naan goes. The overall experience was what I would call "when you have few other choices" dining. As far as Punjabi cooking goes, the fare doesn't do justice to the flavour and tastes of the region. Diani itself doesn't have a large variety of choices when it comes to specific cuisines and perhaps being the (only?) Indian restaurant in the town, the monopoly of it could have influenced the quality, or lack of it. To be fair, the ambiance was not bad at all, cosy and nicely lit. Unfortunately, beyond that, I wouldn't be recommending it, the summative word for our experience was BLAND!More
