Jasper is tucked back in the Ozark’s far enough to be off the tourist trail without being so remote that modern convenience has left it behind - quaint (courthouse in the center of the square w/ an old rock jailhouse across the street) and yet you can still pay at the pump with a debit card and get “sort of” cell service.
Enter the Ozark Cafe, a restaurant composed of several enter-connected storefronts on the square, each eclectically decorated. The food is cafe near it’s best. We had the Volcano burger complete with a cheese skirt that covered an entire platter and the Excalibur that is basically a cheeseburger with two grill cheese sandwiches in place of the bun with a steak knife through the top... you’ll need it! The beef was quality and it was not over cooked (a deal breaker for me), the fries were crisp and hot, the onion rings were ridiculous. Fried pies looked awesome but we were too full as either one of the entrees would have been more suitable for two.
Verdict - when in the Ozark’s do as the hillbillies and GO!

I live no where near this restaurant, but I do hike and canoe in Arkansas by spells. If I am anywhere within reasonable (sometimes unreasonable) driving distance of Jasper I make the journey.
The restaurant is over 100 years, seems to a favorite with the locals and has been written up more than once in the Arkansas Times, and with good reason.
The food is almost invariable very good and occasionally extraordinary. The service matches the food. Last time I hit it, unknowingly, during their lunch time. My chicken fried steak was the bargain of the century as far as I was concerned and oh so good. Their coffee is always great and if you want cream you get REAL cream... get out of town.
Perhaps my most favorite restaurant in the whole state of Arkansas.

Delicious food, wonderful atmosphere, friendly courteous service.
The cafe is full of character serving top notch meals. My husband is quite picky with his eggs - his plate arrived with his eggs prepared to perfection.
Something on the breakfast menu for everyone and reasonably priced.

After hiking pedestal rocks and the king’s bluff trails, we drove on into Jasper and had a late lunch. I had the chicken fried steak sandwich and my wife had the cheese volcano burger and we loved them- actually it was more than we could eat and we were very hungry! Service was great. Would recommend!

If you remember the days of ice cream soda bars and stools and the old jukebox with black and white checkerboard squares on the floors, then you can get an idea of what this place is like. The service was excellent and the reuben sandwich was made with real "sour" kraut. Delicious. This is a great place to eat and it has a good variety of choices. Make sure to ask the waitress for their recommendation.

We saw this restaurant on MAN vs. FOOD. knowing of the place but never had tried it, but after seeing the food it became a must to do. With the on our side, it was a road trip. We got there and were received with a warm and friendly face even though we are still under COVID restrictions. We all tried something different on the menu. We started with Onion petals with ranch, and it was the best. One of us had the Volcano burger, which is burger loaded with cheese then circled in more cheese. A rueben with "tater" - which is potato salad made with sour cream and bacon - the best I have ever had. The rest of our party had the Ozark Cheeseburger, Fried Onion Burger, and the Patty Melt. None of us could say anything bad! Definitely if u are in the area, take the drive!

The Ozark Cafe is always a great choice if you are in the Buffalo River area. My husband said the chicken tender sandwich and ice cream sundae were awesome, and I loved the club sandwich (get it hot). The potato salad is amazing!! On Sundays, they have a buffet which is very good.

We had carry out on our way through Jasper. Chicken tenders, mushroom Swiss burger, and curly fries were all good but fresh cut fries were so soggy we didn’t even eat them. The Reuben sandwich that I had was overly greasy. Service was not fast but was friendly.

We have always eaten there when going through Jasper because of the great food. The last two times we went in, the dining room smelled with a hint of sewage. It just needs a good cleaning. I watched a young man just smear around on a table that he was cleaning. A quality restaurant will clean everything including he seats, catchup bottles etc.
Again, we loved this place with great food. It really breaks my heart that it is not up to standard cleaning levels. Just a side note: Offer disposable gloves at any buffett or self serve, after COVID, that is now a standard practice!

We stopped here for dinner because it was recommended by a person we had met on our road trip. It was established in the early 1900s and has dozens and dozens of photos on the walls. It is really old and quirky. We had Ma’s fried chicken with mashed potatoes and gravy and pinto beans. We shared it and glad we did. The beans were delicious with bacon flavor, the chicken crisp. The potatoes could have been hotter but it was fine. It even came with a trip to the salad bar. We saw lots of customers ordering milkshakes. They must be popular. Our male server was very nice and accommodating.

This is a gem! Such a unique place with great food as such a friendly staff. I suggest you come hungry! Two at or table ordered salad- they should have shared, they are family size!
My father in law had chicken fried steak e was happy it was a real deal steak and he raved over the rolls and homemade gravy.
There is a cute gift sop that n the back next close to the bathroom we would have missed if we hadn’t have gone to the bathroom.

This cafe serves great meals, whether it is breakfast, lunch, or dinner. We had breakfast and the Ozark Cafe didn't disappoint. You need to eat at this place when you are really hungry and if you go away still hungry, it is your own fault. The portions are quite generous and delicious. If you have never been to this cafe, then you need to put it on your bucket list.

We stopped in for breakfast on the last day of our trip in the area because of all the great reviews and this place did not disappoint. Very much an old school diner feel with some of the best breakfast I’d had in a while. Would recommend anyone traveling through the area to stop by for a meal.

I chose the Mushroom Swiss chicken breast plate with mashed potatoes and it was just what I hoped for. It was a great tasting entree. Next trip, I’ll most likely try the sandwich version of the same. The service was spot on and friendly.

Our service was very bad. Our waitress took our order and after 45 minutes, we still had not received any food. The worst part is that we did not see our waitress during this time. One of our party had to ask another employee to check on our food. Then we saw our waitress. 30 more minutes passed until we received our food. All in all, we were there 2 1/2 hours. 4 people. Nothing complicated with the food order. I really feel like our order was either overlooked or not turned in. Not what we were expecting.
