We ate here on a Thursday evening. The specials were very imaginative for a small pub, eg pigeon breasts as a starter, rump of lamb with red wine sauce on the mains menu. The food was beautifully cooked and way exceeded my expectations. Attentive but not overpowering service in a friendly atmosphere. Our visit was in mid May and every... More

one of the best meals I've had in a long time, in fact the only negative was the size of the portions, way too big for us. we both had steak and ale pie which came with masses of vegetables. for those who do want large portions, then visit on a sunday and order the trio of meats, a sunday... More

We have just returned from a week long break in Alnmouth & visited the Red Lion every single day for lunch & refreshments (ie beer/wine). Mac & Jane never end to impress with their enthusiasm on making this place one of the finest traditional pubs I've ever visited. -superb selection of local real ale. - dog friendly - Fantastic beer... We came here for a drink on the Friday evening and really liked the atmosphere. We decided to book a table for dinner on the Saturday and enjoyed it immensely. Good choice of dishes, very generous portions, I struggled to finish my main course of fish cakes. However service was great and we'd definitely go back.

Great food at reasonable prices. We ate in the bar area which had a nice ambience. We heartily recommend the sausage & mash and mushroom risotto. Really enjoyed our meals, thank you.

Dogs are welcome in the bar area. Good quality pub grub. The strawberry gin was delicious and would recommend trying it

The Red lion looks at first to be a slightly tatty pub when you first enter. But proceed from the bar into the dining room and your initial view will change. The selection of dishes available is very good and the staff are very helpful. We used this pub twice on our stay at Alnmouth and were not disappointed on... More

Second time we've stayed here, staff and rooms were excellent as was the breakfast. Place has a great evening atmosphere and can get really busy, but right in the centre of Alnmouth, what else could you ask for, 10 out of 10
