We came past this pub when we visited Byland Abbey nearby and it looked very nice from the outside so decided to come back for our evening meal. It has a nice eating area outside both in the front and back. Access is not easy though if you have mobility problem as there are steps. Obviously popular to the locals,... More

We were staying in the Yurts at Newburgh Priory so walked up to here on a Saturday night for food and a few drinks. The food was lovely - good pub grub! it was nice and relaxed as well, just a nice little country pub. Dog friendly which is alwasy a bonus as well :-)

We stayed here one night during the week and booked a table for the latest we could (8.15pm) as we'd also had a substantial lunch. The staff were very accommodating and friendly, the chef popped through for a chat when things slowed down. Food was very good and we both enjoyed ourselves.

We needed a stopover on the way back from Scotland and decided to do something better than the usual plastic Travelbox. The village is delightful and so is the hotel - right up to the point when a noisy band started playing in the bar and went on until 11pm (to an audience of about six). This is a 'hotel',... More

Booked here for a weekend away, hotel double booked our room. Nowhere to stay two days before our stay. No apology, rude proprietor with no customer service skills. We were looking forward to trying your food but thanks to your shocking service we will never have the pleasure.

Soup and sandwiches were fine but could have been dressed up a bit with some salad. Bread with the soup would also have been welcome.

We had a friendly welcome in this quaint pub in this beautiful village, with its stone cottages and beautiful gardens. We went to visit Shandy Hall, where Laurence Sterne lived. We had also had the pub recommended to us. My husband said the fish and chips were the best he's ever had, and my scampi was pretty good too.

Nice looking pub, good beer but the food was very disappointing. Every item on the plate was bought in, including the oven chips! That wouldn't have been a problem if the prices were appropriate but when they charge "gourmet pub" prices you expect a nod towards gourmet food. I also take exception to being charged £18.95 for a bottle of... More
