The dining rooms are stylishly eclectic, but the chairs were quite hard. Starter of mushroom and tarragon soup was delicious. I had beef and Yorkshire puddings for a main course and asked for the meat to be well done it was perfect, my husband had...More

I should declare from the start that my wife and I have been coming here for years, we love the location and the wonderful character and atmosphere. The main bar area is proper English country pub, whilst the dining rooms are great place to relax...More

We visited the Blue Lion two weeks ago when visiting family for the weekend. They have been countless times and absolutely love it, I can see why!! It's your quintessential country pub so we chose to eat in the cosy bar which was welcoming and...More

Very poor experience going for a meal in the bar. 30 minutes to be asked what we wanted to drink, the young man on the bar was overwhelmed, more staff would be helpful. No quail eggs, not a major disaster, but the over cooked chicken,...More

The good choice is varied and of excellent quality. The Maître D is welcoming and professional. Dining room is a bit characterless and whispering is compulsory. Worth a visit at least once on a trip to the Dales.

This is a gorgeous looking pub from the outside. Unfortunately things are not as good inside. We stayed one night on a Friday in May arriving to stay after a cookery course at Swinton Park (the course was brilliant by the way). The room price...More

Whilst visiting the Yorkshire Dales we decided to lunch at the Blue Lion and being a beautiful day we sat outside. Considering it was a Monday the place was very busy and on being presented with a very nice Ploughmans we could see why. The...More

My husband, my one year old and I stayed here last weekend. My goodness-what a dump. Our room smelt of damp, the carpet was filthy and the bedcovers stained. The type of room where you don't want to take your socks off-urgh. The bed was...More

Yes we do. Dogs are allowed in the bar area, but not the restaurant. The menu is the same in both areas.
