I echo the other comments on here, the pub is busy again as has a nice atmosphere. Bar staff are helpful and friendly I regularly pop in for a drink or two and am never disappointed.

Called in after a long walk for a refreshing pint of real ale the pub was fairly full of locals and bar meals were available. Friendly greeting from the bar maid and the ale was smooth and well kept.

Very pleasant atmosphere, serves food and also Sunday Lunches. In a side street but would recommend a visit as prices very reasonable.

Was so pleased to see this pub is back to being a proper pub, the last time we were all there it was a twee small portions big prices pub...but now seems to be back to a traditional place, Tom behind the bar was so helpful and brought our drinks to our table, top job guys...

Since my last doom-laden review in October things are definitely looking up. Charles Wells have put in place a landlord who, in his words, is there to turn things around after the recent downturn in the pub's fortunes. He knows how to look after his beer and now keeps 4 real ales in good condition. Have been several times and... More

Have been drinking again in this pub since John and Fiona took over and it's great to see that the Railway is back to it's former glory of being a proper local regulars pub. Ate here for the first time and the food was superb. I had the mixed grill whilst my other half had a burger. If you want... More

On the 20th december we served over 40 covers and all except "alison 022015" were very satisfied customers. The previous tenants operated a bistro style establishment, with prices to match, whilst we have a proper pub grub menu,Our sunday roast, priced at a very reasonable £8.50 has home roast meat with home made gravy... Wife and I plus elderly Mum dined here last Wednesday and it wasn't great. The lady serving us was simply FAB. Thoroughly helpful and attentive. Wine good, cider good - all reasonably priced. Gammon/eggs was OK but breaded fish was really overcooked and actually tough whilst 'Somerset Chicken' was a thick grey sauce covering the meat accompanied by very overdone... More

I am so sorry you did not enjoy your meal.somerset chicken can appear a strange colour as it is a cream, white wine and cider sauce ( home made ) .The vegetables were savoy cabbage, carrots and swede and I apologise if they were not cooked as you like them. we take comments very seriously and offer you another meal at you... The new landlord has done a fantastic job of returning this pub to its former glory. There's a great menu of reasonably priced pub grub and beer is well kept at prices in keeping with other pubs in the area. The ambience is welcoming and friendly - everything that an out of town pub should be. Still concerns over the... More
