We had a spontaneous trip for lunch before both of us started night shifts on Sunday. I have to say we we're very pleased with the Talbot having moved to Shaftesbury a year ago and trying the local pubs, this was the first time we've been. The service was as a good as can be expected for a Sunday afternoon,... More

We had Sunday lunch here last weekend and very good it was too. Very friendly staff and the food was wholesome and pretty good value for money. It certainly seemed to be a popular choice with the locals which is always a good sign and the fact that it was busy made for a nice atmosphere. A good choice for... More

We stayed for two nights, choice of rooms (recently renovated), looked after by attentive and friendly staff. Food was really enjoyable and we were delighted to have stumbled upon this little gem of a well run and welcoming pub that has a great menu and extremely comfortable rooms. Thanks Erika and team, we'll be back..!!

The place looks great but the food doesn’t match and seems a little pricey for what you got. We had a couple of salads (as a main) - one was crayfish and the other was pigeon. They were OK, just lacking the rest of what was advertised as being in the salad. I had the sherry trifle for dessert and... More

Had lunch here on a wet Saturday.Food was very good as was the beer, although at £3.60 a pint of Badger it was expensive.Friendly, efficient and helpful service and they also allow dogs in.We would certainly visit again if in the area.Recommended.

We haven't booked; our flight from Italy was delayed; I call the Talbot on the way back from Gatwick and ask if they could squeeze three of us in. Erica said, "Yes". We arrived to find the place absolutely heaving with parties celebrating Mothers Day. There's a special menu and George Hewitt singing torch songs in his beautiful voice. Ellie-Mae... More

We had heard that this hall and woodhouse pub was open again and had a new landlady who is a temp at the moment from another pub so we stopped by. Must say we were made to feel very welcome, the fire as lit the music was good and the total ambiance of the place was really pleasant. the menu... More

A breath of fresh air as the new landlady takes over the Talbot. Had a great party there last night and met the locals and what a friendly fun bunch they are too. I look forward to the new menu when the new kitchen is up and running. Good luck Erika.
