A long-standing entry in The Good Beer Guide and it's easy to see why. Everything you would expect from a beer house! We tried their "house beer" straight from the cask - very good. They also have St.Austell and other brewers ales on handpump. Traditional "dark beam" interior which adds to the charm of the bar. A must visit -... More

Visited with friends at lunch time. The interior is very nice, comfortable and traditional. With authentic pub feel! (So many imposters nowadays). We had food which was very nice, and the menu was a lot more interesting than many pub menus. There is a desperate dining area which again is very nice and quaint. The ale was good, staff friendly... We went here with a friend on a Friday night. As we walked in the place was full of locals having a really great time. The atmosphere was that of a good old fashion pub, loads of people, a few men with a squeeze box singing and a warm welcome from everyone. Not one of those pubs where the music... More

This is probably the busiest pub in Lyme Regis and has a great atmosphere and friendly staff. We called in for a drink a couple of times and would recommend it. We did not get around to eating here as food is only served at the weekend

This pub is a little gem. Called in yesterday with some friends. Great barman (landlord?) , terrific atmosphere, friendly and welcoming locals, excellent beer and delicious sandwiches. We will return!

Stumbled across The Volunteer Inn one lunch time in a busy August. Being at the top of the town it wasn't too busy compared to the heaving places on the sea front. Good choice of ales and a good real flat cider on hand pump. Not a huge menu ( often a good sign!). We had the fish and chips... More

I booked a table for myself and my husband as part of his 60th Birthday celebrations. We were given such a warm welcome when we arrived. We took the opportunity to visit the bar before we went into the restaurant and I am glad we did as The Volunteer has a great atmosphere and I would recommend it. The food... More

Although this pub was the furthest from our accomodation we treated it as our local. The main bar is rather small and gets crowded with friendly locals but one can use the other bar which is used for lunch time food. There is food at lunch time and on Friday and Saturday evening which is very good and in generous... More
