The restaurant currently has a Winter Offer, which is offering a lesser portion by weight with a drink. We (two of us) were hungry so opted for the 'larger' portion from the main menu and purchased the drinks separately. This costed approx. £8 more that the total of the offer. We got our meals and drinks and the fish was... More

Wanted try some fresh fish and chips while staying by the coast. Thought with R Stein's reputation for fish we had to try. The fish was nice and fresh but have had better tasting batter. However, the chips were awful, even my baby didn't appreciate the potato as it wasn't fluffy inside. Really hoped for better.

The fish was good. I had the squid and my wife had the bass. It was billed as Cornish fish and chips, so I'll take them at their word - but if I had caught a bass that small off the Cornish coast, the law says that I would have to throw it back! But, as I said. We both... More

Called in on off chance and was greeted my a very welcoming young man who showed us to a table and then told us of the offers that were on for that day, we both choose the fish and chips on specials this came with tea as neither of drink tea to change the drinks wasn't a problem. Fish and... More

First of all, it is only a fish and chip shop albeit a Rick Stein fish and chip shop so already our expectations were higher than they would have been for your usual fish and chip shop and you we assumed the food would be good along with the service. We were prepared to pay the extra (£10.95 for battered... More

Our much anticipated visit to the acclaimed Rick Stein restaurant was frankly a disappointment. To say Rick might have rested a little too much on his laurels may be unkind but it seemed a bevy of students from the nearby cooking school with scant training and uncertain talent was thoughtlessly deployed in the restaurant with little regard to the reputation... I'm disappointed in myself for trying out Stein's because my gut feeling was that it wasn't going to be great! I suspect that some might find sitting on hard wooden benches and eating out of plastic trays enjoyable, however that could only be the case if the food was bearable. In this instances, the only word that can describe Stein's... More

Great food, good price beer a bit expensive at £4.50 a pint! Service great, atmosphere good. Well worth a visit and much more affordable than Ricks other place!

Only average as the minute piece of fish really didn't warrant the £8.20 price. Okay, the batter was very good, the fish had an odd texture thiugh, almost as though the oil was too hot, cooking the edge too much. The chips were really quite average to be honest. Nice but not if youre hungry.

As a fan of Rick Stein our visit to this particular restaurant was a huge disappointment. Firstly it's very cramped, the seating arrangement is horrible, rock hard bench seating which you may have to share , which we did with a very sour faced couple. Now to the food, served in cardboard tray's, the fish and chips poor, we are... More

Description
Stein's Fish & Chips boasts both a restaurant and takeaway, located in Padstow on the beautiful North Cornwall coast overlooking the Camel Estuary. You'll find a menu of cod and haddock together with a large range of local fish like hake, monkfish, John Dory and bass which is often landed right here on our doorstep in Padstow.

Our fish is coated in our homemade batter and deep fried in beef dripping to make it really crisp and we serve our own mushy peas and curry sauce as well as our homemade mayonnaise-based tartare sauce.
