This fish and chips is usually fabulous, lovely batter that is crispy and chips cooked the way they should be. However on our most recent visit it appears the volume of customers in the summer is simply too great for standards to be maintained. Will avoid until the hoardes have gone.

Had to queue but it was worth it. Excellent food with friendly staff. All dishes have a gluten free option. Cheesecake was epic but it comes in a weird pot.

Thoroughly enjoyed our battered cod and chips. The chips where better than at Chips Ahoy but not the cod. Can't comment on the batter as I don't like it but husband said it was great - crispy, light and not soggy.

It was our last lunch in Padstow and the wife was of doing her last visit of the Camel Trail. We had a GREAT visit to the Seafood Restaurant (see separate review) and I thought, hey why not have a last fish and chips before we leave. Our dog Barney loves a this as a treat as well. (No fried... More

Had to queue a bit which was fine because the food was excellent. Order onion rings because they are delicious and plentiful. Only minor irritation was that as a four we were squeezed onto the ends of two adjoining tables which I think annoyed the other two parties and we felt a bit awkward.

It was inevitable that this would be a popular venue, given the exposure of Rick Stein on TV. The fish and chips were fine, but didn't strike me as any better than a regular fish and chip shop, and definitely more expensive than the average. So by all means go and enjoy the experience, but don't get too excited about... More

We arrived just as it was opening and we didn't have to queue at all, and the fish and chips came out quickly. (The queue was huge by 1pm, but I don't know how quickly it was moving so wouldn't want to comment on speed of service at the more busy time) The food was really yummy, crispy batter and... More

Wanted to sit and eat so had to wait to be seated about 40 minutes because we ate at peak time. The restaurant seater was excellent and even bought the whole queue a sample out. The food did not disappoint. I had grilled lemon sole would definitely have it again. The waitresses were very friendly and efficient. Of course we... More

Stein's Fish & Chips boasts both a restaurant and takeaway, located in Padstow on the beautiful North Cornwall coast overlooking the Camel Estuary. You'll find a menu of cod and haddock together with a large range of local fish like hake, monkfish, John Dory and bass which is often landed right here on our doorstep in Padstow.

Our fish is coated in our homemade batter and deep fried in beef dripping to make it really crisp and we serve our own mushy peas and curry sauce as well as our homemade mayonnaise-based tartare sauce.
