Nice fish and chips but a little pricey but that is due to having the name Rick Stein above the door, it is easy not to get fish and chips right but you will not have to worry here, have been twice now so must being doing something right :-)

We went to this restaurant a couple of years ago and, while the fish & chips were nice enough, we had eaten better elsewhere and thought we were unlikely to return. However, finding ourselves in Padstow on a very wet January morning with an hour to kill we decided to give it another try, mainly because other sit down eating... More

Considering how packed it nearly always is, this unpretentious fish n chip shop with tables is reliably good and well run, as you would expect. BUT - prepare to queue! (Last time for 45 minutes!!). And drinks are disproportionately expensive, which is a pity, as you feel a bit ripped off - or should that be 'Rick'-ed Off? :) for... More

We can't visit Padstow without going for a Rick Stein's fish and chips. It is quite expensive but not out of line with Padstow prices in general. It's not a large place and not somewhere that you will be able to wine and dine for hours. You will have to queue and once you're seated, you order, eat and leave.... More

Now, we arrived about an hour before closing time so my hope is that this is the reason for such a dreadful meal - I can only hope that the soggy chips were as a result of being kept under a heat lamp for a while and the mushy peas which were more mushy than peas were lukewarm because the... More

They offer gluten free fish which is cooked in a separate fryer and topped off with gluten free vinegar. It is more expensive but definitely worth it!

A clean environment, well cooked food.We liked the extra things you could order, ie squid rings with an alioli dip.It is a little overpriced, but having some knowledge of this industry, and how fish, potatoes and dry goods have risen in price, for visiting public this is a nice treat. However if you live locally it proves expensive, but like everything that... The fish was rather good it was very meaty and pure while flakes. The chips where crispy on the outside and stayed crispy until the end. No sogginess here! The homemade tartare sauce was exceptional but, my one only slight criticism would be that the vinegar wasn't that of traditional non brewed condiment (my preferred style) it was more balsamic... So many people waiting to get served and inflated prices. It's not as if Mr Stein is actually cooking it! Didn't quite see why so many people were prepared to wait so long for a small box of fish and chips.

Description
Stein's Fish & Chips boasts both a restaurant and takeaway, located in Padstow on the beautiful North Cornwall coast overlooking the Camel Estuary. You'll find a menu of cod and haddock together with a large range of local fish like hake, monkfish, John Dory and bass which is often landed right here on our doorstep in Padstow.

Our fish is coated in our homemade batter and deep fried in beef dripping to make it really crisp and we serve our own mushy peas and curry sauce as well as our homemade mayonnaise-based tartare sauce.
