We enjoyed a very special birthday celebration dinner for our son-in-law at the Royal Oak. We wanted an English Pub atmosphere that was peaceful and relaxing and we were not disappointed. We were very pleased with our meals, especially the seafood.

Never had a bad experience here in years. Staff always friendly and food excellent. NOt cheap but always good quality. Nice garden area in summer and homely feel inside in winter.

Had Sunday lunch here. Nice pub, with friendly (mainly young) staff. Food was delicious and the place had a warm and welcoming feel. Our basset was really made to feel at home. Would definitely go back.

Eaten here on a few occasion. Always delicious food and they cater for fussy coeliacs like me. Dogs are welcome and there is a pleasant outside seating area.

We went for a birthday lunch out in the country. Gastropub was very busy and because we were a little early we were served drinks at the small bar while we waited for our table. For a starter we shared bread with roasted garlic and...More

We have visited here several times previously, but haven't been here for about a year. What a disappointment! Maybe a change of chef? The food was mainly unseasoned and bland. Even the so called triple fried chips tasted horrible and were cooked just normally. We...More

Hi, yes dogs are most welcome inside the pub. We love our little furry friends. Water bowls and doggy treats are also available. Dogs can sit with their owners in the bar area and at the tables situated on the hard floors.

Description
From the banks of the Thames take the short trip up the winding hill to Bovingdon Green and the warm, wooden heart of award-winning The Royal Oak. Oak by name and oaken by nature - but not hard or austere: not a bit of it. Bare floorboards and ancient timbers ooze bonhomie, it feels like someone's home - it might as well be yours for the time you are there. Like old friends visiting for dinner, the welcome is easy and relaxed. It's journey's end.
