We visited early on a Sunday evening, we were well impressed by the look of the place and the friendly staff. Our food was magnificent from starter to desert. Four of us had different dishes and all it done was made me want to return all the dishes. Do yourself a favour and book now before it gets too famous. Sarah was our server

Another excellent visit to this restaurant, had the classic prawn and monkfish starter and a superb black sole served with a beautiful array of vegetables as main course - truly outstanding! The location, overlooking the harbour and the charming décor provide an excellent setting. The warm welcome and the cosy atmosphere combine with comfortable furnishings to create a great backdrop for the extensive menu that includes an abundance of fish dishes along with plenty of other options as well. The friendly interactions between diners and staff indicates popularity with locals - always a good sign. As on previous visit the fish dishes were beautifully cooked and served, the main course had five or maybe six vegetables all perfectly prepared, portioned and presented. As the room filled up it was clear that the extremely pleasant and competent staff knew their roles and were enthusiastic about their work. This is already on the way to being one of the best restaurants in the country and it merits the very highest recommendation. Will definitely be back!

I had the pleasure of visiting this magnificent restaurant last week. The food was absolutely beautiful, I was lucky to taste a range of starters and mains, and each we're as good as the other. The service was great, very attentive and friendly and the atmosphere was really chilled and enjoyable. I can't wait to return when I visit Killybegs again. Thank you.

We called in for Sunday evening meal. Mairead the hostess was extremely welcoming. She instantly made us feel like friends and explained the menu including the few changes caused by the scarcity of some fish due to the recent run of storms preventing the local fishing fleet getting out.(Which is a hazard of dealing with locally caught fresh fish). Although we only ordered main courses we were served amuse bouches of spicy cauliflower soup which were small but delicious. My sirloin steak which I asked for very well done was perfect, it came with pepper sauce on the side, which normally I wouldn't bother with but again it tasted so good I ate more than I should, my steak came with chips and fresh vegetables. The other meal which was Monkfish on a bed of creamed potatoes was also perfectly prepared and tasted fantastic. The atmosphere in the restaurant was cosy and busy but not overly noisy. Service was quick and the staff were very polite and friendly. This is a fairly new restaurant and I expect they will go from strength to strength. We will definitely return when we are in this area again. Thanks Mairead.

Five of us visited the Boathouse for dinner and we were all delighted by the experience. The food was wonderful - three fish dishes, two duck and a few assorted desserts - the staff were extremely pleasant and helpful and the view out to the lights of Killybegs harbour was the icing on the cake. Highly recommended!

From excellent, very friendly staff to exceptional well crafted plates of local produce, this restaurant is by far one of the best I’ve ever visited. A well designed outdoor dining area overlooks the harbour where husband and wife team will greet you and make sure every part of your visit is enjoyable and worth every euro. The halibut, steaks, deserts and in fact all the fresh fish dominant menu will have you skipping back. This is THE ONE, you don’t need to look anywhere else. Booking is essential and make sure you skip lunch - you’ll thank me later!! 6 stars if possible.

We were spending the night in Killybegs at short notice. The Boathouse looked the most tempting place to eat - and it was. Quite quiet (the night before Valentine's), and a warm welcome from one of the couple who own and run it. We shared a generous portion of crab claws, then each had hake with a herb crust and interesting potatoes and well-cooked parsnips and other vegetables, then again shared a carragheen & Baileys mousse - all very tasty and top quality. With a decent bottle of Chardonnay, just under E80 before service. Afterwards, the chef / owner came out from the kitchen and chatted about the restaurant, the neighbourhood etc.

We visited the Boathouse for a birthday celebration on August 1st. The food and service was superb. The atmosphere was relaxed and the staff’s attention to detail has to be complemented. Gary the Chef and owner came to our table and discuss our experience. The Boathouse restaurant is newly built and while enjoying the comfortable decor one can enjoy the beautiful Coastland view of the fishing port and the fleet of fishing trawlers in the background. A truly 5 star experience We will be back!

A fish restaurant is a fishing town: what more could you ask for ? We had the good fortune to stumble across this place on a visit home to Donegal last month and boy are we glad we did. It’s situated on the Main Street in Killybegs but has a large patio at the rear which looks out over the harbour and the hustle & bustle of daily fishing life. I look forward to returning over the summer months to eat al fresco. We were a party of eight and, without exception, we all opted for seafood courses from a menu that included Pan Seared Medallions of Monkfish with Leek Ragu, Roast Hake with a Basil & Tomato Crust, Black Sole on the Bone and Pan Seared Brill with Tomato Concasse. Carnivores are also catered for with options ranging from Steak to Gaelic Chicken. Starters include Pan Seared Scallops with Boxty Potatoes, Slow Cooked Pork Belly Confit, Monk & Prawns, Crab Claws with Garlic & Chilli, Mussels in White Wine & Garlic and Seafood Chowder. Eight empty plates were returned for each course which is the best compliment any diner could pay a kitchen. To finish matters off on a even higher high, one of us (who shall remain nameless) chose an Almond Bakewell Tart with Raspberry Coulis for a sugary end to the night. It was demolished ! The owners (Gary & Mairead) are a lovely couple and made a point of introducing themselves at the end of the night. Gary is the Chef whilst Mairead runs front of house: both are friendly, welcoming, knowledgeable and excellent in their roles and deserve to be supported. This place is a gem and well, well worth a detour.

So happy to see a new vibrant restaurant pop up in killybegs! The decor is fresh and modern with cosy mood lighting, especially love the lights under the edge of the bar. The menu has great options, slightly leaning towards more seafood options which is understandable with killybegs port below. I had the tasting starter, pork belly, boxty, scallop & black pudding bonbons! Everything tasted great but the pork belly could have been a little bigger or an extra bon bon would have been nice for the price point of €12. Next I had the pan-fried Brill expecting a crispy skin and they didn't disappoint! Cooked to perfection and a creamy sauce and tasty veg side. Got the winter berry crumble to finish which had a lovely buttery biscuit base. I wish them the best of luck and can't wait to go back, hopefully we'll get to sit in the beautifully framed tables near the window!

Our meal at the Boathouse was fabulous! The service was really quick, staff were extremely attentive and the overall atmosphere was lovely, great community spirit in the Boathouse. We had crab claws to start in chilli and garlic butter which was so luxurious and fresh! Then the monk and butternut squash risotto - which was so creamy and delicious. Overall the starters and mains were really tasty and presented beautifully. We finished off the meal with the creme caramel and the brownie, the brownie was definitely tasty, however, I did feel after such a brilliant meal that the desserts lacked creativity. The dessert was a little bit too basic for the Boathouse, I think they could experiment a little in this area. But overall, a brilliant experience and would absolutely recommend to anyone!

Boathouse is the type of restaurant that gives you the perfect excuse that make that long trip to the other side of the country. I can’t wait to go back! What a fabulous meal, scallops to start where divine perfectly cooked deeply caramelised, served on a potato cake with a delicious parsnip purée. Brill for main was incredible, just off the boat and perfectly cooked with vegetables and a fondant potato. Fish does not have to be complicated when you’ve got it this fresh The black sole was one of those rare treats, talking to the chef it was just landed that morning. Again flawless in its cooking served simply with a fondant potato and vegetables. Staff were attentive and accommodating with all precautions necessary taken at the current time. Gary the Head chef was also lovely to talk to which was as great end to a great meal

Beautiful local restaurant. Staff were great and the manager (Fabrice I think?) went to great lengths to order us a taxi at the end of the night. Gary, the chef and owner, came out at the end of his shift and went around each table to chat to diners which was a really classy touch. He spent 15 minutes talking to us when there was really no need as we'd already had a lovely night. A really nice fella. Got the Monkfish for my main course, delicious.

Showstopper Restaurant! Food is exquisite 5 star. Had no complaints from start to finish. Crab Claws & Monkfish unreal tasting and presentation portion sizes perfect too. Kids well catered for and all cleaned plates. Wine list is extensive and something for everyone. We were so full we couldn’t order the delightful desserts though on seeing others they looked fabulous. Instead I enjoyed a liquid dessert of ‘Expresso Martini’ handmade by the delightful Fabrice who is a gentleman full of personality what every restaurant needs great front of house service. Will visit next month again when we revisit Killybegs again!

Visited here for dinner last week. I had the brill which was delicious and lovely veg selection and bakewell tart for dessert, very happywitg my meal. Hubby had the steak and chips, steak came with onions and mushrooms NO VEG, although he enjoyed his steak the portion of onions and mushrooms with chips was very small and suggest including a serving of veg with this dish too. We conveyed our views to the waitress.
