Has been one of our favorite nicely upgraded bistro type places in Surprise. The menu has something for everyone, it also has a bit of the french flair which keeps going from the previous owner. I called ahead and asked for a table reservation not...in the bar area but in the dining room area. Was told it is full but has room in a booth, i asked if it was on the opposite side of the bar in the dining room. was told yes. We got there and did not have a table there as told, told they were getting ready for the 5 p.m. rush, it was 4 pm. and it was their date night special nite, so she wanted to put us right by the door in the bar area. seeing that it was way too hot to sit outside, which is also very nice dining, we still got a table in the bar area, but was closer to the service area. Took awhile for server to greet us. We had already decided on our appetizer and wine, but waited. Dining room did not seem too full yet. Haythem, nice gentleman, stopped by our table and took our order. Seemed very rushed. We gave him our app order , Tuna tartare, always our favorite to share, nice small chunks of ahi, in a great ponzu sauce with avocado, tomatoes and good crackers to scoop that all up with. Had just a very small dab of wasabi to share and only 2 small pieces of ginger in the middle of the tuna tower. Could not find Haythem to get more wasabi or ginger pieces. We then ordered our entres the Vogue Steak and frit and the lasagna. there was a wait but we know that all is cooked super fresh and worth the wait. Never had anyone come by to let us know of a wait or ask if we need anything. But we did see the very friendly and smiling water and clean up girl more often than our server. Someone else brings the food to you, so again, did not see the server. The Vogue steak was cooked perfectly as asked for medium, very tender and juicy and the frits were plentiful. The lasagna was a huge casserole chock full of really great pieces of italian sausage and ground beef mix with lots of sauce, spinach and herbs and cheese. I had asked for some bread, Haythem said we can get a baguette to you. Ok great. Never got the baguette or told maybe they did not have any. Instead someone came a bit later after my entre with pretzel bread. to me that does not go with Lasagna, and the pretzel bites happened to be on the appetizer list. So maybe all they had. Not told there was not a baquette. I brought them home with the rest of my lasagna, Haythem did not even stop by until we were well past halfway done with our meal to check, then asked if we wanted dessert. Then it was just the check he brought. So 3 times we quickly saw him, and did not see anyone walking around the dining areas to see that all was going well and talking to the diners. I am basing my rating on the food and ambiance. Which is always very good, nicely upgraded dining experience. Maybe need to work on the service, which understand there may be a lack of right now.More
