Nick took my order, I asked him what he recommended, and it was Mac & Cheese with smoked chicken. Portion was huge, and I was unable to eat it all, so I took the rest home. Jalen was my waitress. She was just 16 and very friendly. David was the bar tender, and he pored me my beer. Everything was top-notch, and the staff was very friendly. The food was good and tasty. My complaint, if any was it, took a while to get my food. I truly recommend this place to get a great meal.

I have high expectations regarding BBQ (Kentucky born and raised here!) and this place did not disappoint. Sampled the Beef Brisket, House Pulled Pork and Carolina Style Pulled Pork. All were excellent!!! Sauce is great - Carolina style sauce is best I have ever had (thanks Arizona!!!) Mac-N-Cheese side helping is generous and very creamy; there was a slight up charge for battered sweet potato fries but they’re worth it and the regular shoe string fries are well seasoned! Great pit stop, very quick service for such well prepped and presented food! Attached to a gas station and small store, but restaurants has its own area. RV park somewhere in back, too!

This place is a bar and a restaurant separate from each other but in the same overall building. I came for dinner on the way through town. I had an order of the BBQ machaca "eggrolls". They are flour tortillas with burnt ends of brisket turned into machaca with onions, spices, etc., and then deep fried. They were very very good and I would come back just for them. The sandwich I ordered seemed to be a misfire. I got the double decker with sausage and brisket. I liked the brisket more than the sausage, but they both seemed pretty bland in the bun. I stopped eating the bun and just dipped the sausage and brisket directly into the sauce and that helped. Did have some hefty heartburn the rest of the drive. Friendly people. Didn't get to try the bar side.

We came late one evening during the week for Taco Tuesday. We sat in the bar and ordered in the restaurant at the counter. We ordered two orders of 3 tacos and a pulled pork sandwich. We had a beeper to tell us when it was ready. 40 minutes later no order. I went to the counter and she had to look for the ticket for the order (they weren't busy) She said we'll get it out to you right away. They brought it to us. The tacos had shells like leather and hardly anything in them. The pulled pork had hardly any sauce on it. I think the tacos were supposed to come with coleslaw and if so they didn't bring that with the order. The owners were not there that night. I'd hope if they had been the food would have been better. These were the worst tacos I've ever had. The staff took no pride in serving that food. It was the end of the night and they didn't want to make food the way it should have been. The brisket tacos were the bark from the brisket and uneatable. The owners need to make sure they have staff they can trust when not around because having staff like that won't bring customers back serving food like that! We haven't been back since.

We wanted to grab a quick lunch on our way through Springerville and boy were we glad we picked Gateway. You know it’s going to be good as soon as you walk through the door and inhale that scent of top notch barbecue. The food is absolutely delicious and the menu is broad & creative. Loved it!

...is something a friend says, and it sure was, here! Top quality barbeque on the far side of town. We both ordered sandwiches, and we both had leftovers. The kitchen (visible, which I always like: makes me think they have nothing to hide) was hopping with both dine-in and take-out orders. We could tell this is a local favorite.

Brother in law treated me for my birthday. Suggested we try their combination plate that included smoked sausage, pulled pork, brisket ribs and chicken. There was enough for us both to fill up at lunch and still have left over to bring home.
The sausage lacked heat and did not pick up much of the smoke flavor. The pulled pork was outstanding, full of moisture and smoke flavor. Excellent! Brisket was a bit less smoky but very satisfying overall. The ribs were moist, flavorful and very meaty. Excellent +. Should have been the star of the smoke show. However, it was the smoked chicken that was the true star. Moist, tender, full of smoke flavor. Perfect. Needed nothing but to be consumed slowly and appreciated.
Very good bbq. Do not miss their chicken!!!!!!!

We asked for recommendations from the hotel desk clerk. Hands down, she recommended the Gateway BBQ. It’s out of town a ways and shares the restaurant location with a convenience store and gas station. The place is two parts – a bar area with a large bar in the center; and the restaurant area at which you order at an order desk. In both areas are booths and tables to eat and drink at. We shared dinner salad, pulled pork, shredded brisket, onion rings and beer. Good dinner. Bar service was friendly. But bar tender was awfully busy. The food service was indifferent. They acted as if they would rather be somewhere else. Yuk!

We stopped in to see the changes the new new owners have made. We were pleasantly surprised at the improvements. The outside patio area is great! Games and plenty of seating outside. We came for the live music and to try the food. Everything we tried was great. We had the nachos, wings, bbq sandwich, mac and cheese, and pulled chicken. Prices are very reasonable for bbq. Service was great in the bar. Drink prices are reasonable, especially for happy hour. The new owners expanded the hours they are open which means we can stop in now as we don't live in Springerville. There are 3 pool tables and 2 dart boards.

Stumbled on this place while taking a quick break at a gas station/store it was attached to. We were headed to Socorro for the night and were getting very hungry. The smell of the barbecue drifting into the store led us to this restaurant. Ordered two brisket sandwiches and shoestring fries! Oh my! This was some of the best barbecue ever! The brisket and sauce was absolutely delicious! Hate that we were just passing through on a trip! Wish we had one at our hometown! I wonder how many other travelers have been drawn into your establishment from the smell of your barbecue? All barbecue is not created equally and yours is some of the best I have ever tasted! Makes me want to plan a trip that goes through your town so we can visit again.

The smoked flavor on pizza I was a little nervous about, but thrilled I made the right choice. The Pulled Pork & Pineapple was absolutely the perfect choice for me.

If you don't want to eat at a chain restaurant, then Avery's is the place. Plan on spending at least 30-40 min. They make each sandwich individually. I think they pull the meat and then crisp it on the grill each time an order is placed. They add a nice sweet/spicy BBQ sauce. However, don't order the mac and cheese. It's just cheese melted on macaroni, so it's not creamy and not particularly flavorful. They were out of the ranch beans so those must be pretty good.

I LOVE barbeque and have eaten at many BBQ establishments - this is one of the best ever! We just happened to be driving by on our road trip and were all hungry. I had the brisket, my husband and daughter had the pulled pork. Everything was moist and delicious - just the right amount of smoke. Yum! Very interesting saloon/bar too - looks like it is straight out of an old Western!

Good variety of menu options. I got the pulled chicken sandwich it was very good. The bar area is large and has a nice bar to relax for a couple drinks. It was fairly busy when I was there but didn’t have to wait long for food.

Stopped at Avery’s in Springerville, AZ for lunch. I saw this establishment as a “4” overall. Food was very tasty, service was good and friendly, and ambiance was OK. Restrooms were clean. Pricing was fair.
Thought I might be getting the best ever ribs here (per TA reviews), but not so. Ribs were good, not great. They were not the most tender nor the most meaty.
Pulled chicken was excellent.
