The food? Stellar. The experience? Unique. But to die for? No. Compared with other equivalent restaurants in Scottsdale the mask protocols fell well short. Nobu, Elements, etc. all so much better. At Monarch the servers wore ill-fitting cloth masks that frequently hung out below their...noses, as if one's oropharynx and nasopharynx weren't connected. Please upgrade to at least surgical masks (most of Nobu's staff had a respirator mask with surgical over it) and better protect your clients from the airborne pathogen.More

We have been meaning to visit Cafe Monarch for a while so when my wife suggested we celebrate our daughter’s birthday in style we knew exactly where we wanted to take her. As you arrive at the front of the restaurant you are treated to...the sight of a wonderful courtyard with a whimsical fountain in the middle, turn left and walk through the doors and you are transported back to a time when fine dining was a truly memorable experience. The staff that first greeted us were very pleasant and extremely courteous, they brought us to our table and welcomed us warmly, they had even read that it was our daughter’s birthday and made it extra special for her, we were very impressed. Each and every waitstaff that came to our table was friendly, professional and very helpful, they all seemed to be enjoying what they did and wanted to ensure everyone had an excellent experience, again both my wife and I were very impressed. The menus presented were clearly laid out and they even read that our daughter is a vegetarian and gave her a different menu. My wife and I chose to have the 4 course chef’s special with wine pairings and our daughter did the same but from the vegetarian menu which I would have even enjoyed given the amazing choices offered. Our server was excellent and had the wine pored each and every time before the course arrived, he took the time to tell us all about the wine and then did the same when our food arrived, everything was perfectly timed, presented and prepared. The menus change every few weeks but what doesn’t change is the amazing food that the team at Cafe Monarch create. For dessert they brought out a special birthday treat for our daughter complete with candles and a small gift, it was a perfect touch to an absolutely perfect evening, a big thanks to all the wonderful staff that made her birthday so special. We will be back and we’re already looking forward to seeing what the chefs have up their sleeves.More

Clearly being rated it as a number one restaurant in Phoenix and having such accolades, expectations were very high. We were extremely pleased and satisfied with every aspect of the restaurant- the ambience, service and of course the quality of food. I would definitely consider...returning here on our next trip. This was a memorable fine dining experienceMore

A lovely meal. Excellent service. Not too much and not too little. Excellent cuisine with perfect portions. Fantastic flavors and a peaceful ambience. This was our second visit and it was just an delicious as the first. Treat yourself and enjoy a wonderful dining experience....My husband and our 13 y.o. Daughter had a delectable meal with just the right portions and a reasonable cadence. I would not recommend young children who aren’t experienced diners or younger picky eaters as the meal really is a blend of cuisine and ambience.More

The best fine dining restaurant without the pretentiousness! I like to visit Cafe Monarch at least once a year whenever I visit Scottsdale/Arizona. I’m not a food snob - I simply love the taste of great cooked food and in my opinion Cafe Monarch is...the finest restaurant I’ve ever been fortunate to eat at beating the likes of Petrus (London) and French Laundry (California). You eat within a French/Mediterranean setting which is beautiful and very authentic. The menu is 4 courses. You get 2 options for each of the first 3 courses and 6-8 options for the 4th main course. There is an optional choice of dessert at the end. Their cocktails are delicious and their wine list is thicker than the Bible - and boy, do they know their wines. Before drinks, you’ll pay between $100-$175 per head. Trust me..... this is value for money. Sadly our visit was in December 2020 during the pandemic and the restaurant was pretty quiet. We sat outside (plenty of heaters - we were warm and comfortable throughout our stay) and I think there were 8 other tables being occupied. Inside I saw only 4 tables being occupied. However, let me assure you there was still a great atmosphere. I want to give special mention to ALL of the employees working at Cafe Monarch. I can’t imagine how stressful this year must have been (and continues to be) for them yet their service was exemplary. They were all extremely attentive, friendly, informative and courteous which I thought was fantastic. Just when I think this restaurant can’t get any better it does! Every time. Go visit, you’ll love it. BenMore

I am not a red meat eater, but this restaurant is an exception. EVERYTHING was 11/10, and I am so thankful for the opportunity it was to eat here. It was expensive, but well worth it. If you are a foodie, absolutely come.

I made the reservation via Opentable. We got fancy dressed for the location and arrive at the time. As soon we arrived the hostess said that my 2 years old daughter could Not get in. This is a policy required by the owners. In Opentable...there is no information about the age. We had to leave the restaurant with a “I am so sorry she is adorable”. My daughter was hungry and thought that she was going to eat and when she noticed we were not she started to cry. We had to find a last minute available restaurant to go. If this is an important requeriment from the restaurant it is a MUST WARNING that they have to obligate Opentable To show the client when we are making the reservation. The only notice in Opentable is about the 4 course prix menu. But NONE about not accepting children under 10yo. It is a COMPLETELY DISRESPECT.More

My 17 year old daughter and I ate at Cafe Monarch in September 2020. I must say after looking at some of the unique menu items, she was only going because I promised her Taco Bell on the way home if she could not find...something she liked. To say we had an amazing dinner is an understatement. We both had the scallops dinner. They were perfect, a slight crispy on the outside and perfectly cooked on the inside. Each of the other unique items that came out as our first 3 courses were met by an inquisitive look from the teenager, yet ended up delighting her taste buds. The food was second only to the service we received. Not only did our waiter give us high end (not stuffy) service, all additional staff was appropriately interacting, as well. They have high end service down to an art! I will be coming back soon!More

Last visited / reviewed this fine dining establishment in June 2016. Since then it has moved across the street into an upscale / romantic venue "par excellence!" My wife and I had a celebratory dinner last night that was OUTSTANDING. The complete package. Every component...of the evening's experience was A++. Without a question one of the finest dining establishments in Arizona and the West.More

This is a great restaurant but I would have preferred lower prices and hence, being able to go more often because it really is delicious. Honestly, everyone who dines here should love it. As already stated, it’s costly which means this has to be a...special occasion restaurant rather than one we would go to on a regular basis. It’s absolutely gorgeous here. The gardens are beautiful as is the decor and the furniture.  I would plan on spending $100-$150/person, after tip, if you have a cocktail and share a bottle of decent wine. The chef puts his heart and soul into his work. He came out personally to understand exactly what my wife wanted for her main course because she is a vegetarian. I had the ribeye which was delicious and cooked to perfection. Another element we all appreciated was the food portion. While we had plenty to eat, we weren’t stuffed as is often the case at American restaurants. Not only did we love the mains but the appetizers were also yummy. I had the crab soup which was amazing. Also the salad was so delicious. You’ll love it here. It’s an exceptionally delicious restaurant that comes at an exceptionally high price.More

We chose Outdoor Dining and we were not sorry. They use misters and it's southern Arizona so it's a dry heat. We liked it outside and, I must admit, with the virus concerns, we thought outdoors might be a better idea. Great... More
