I love stopping into Portal and if you are in the area be sure to try the store and Café. The tomato basil panini was exceptional. The staff is friendly and helpful. Don't let the appearance deceive you. It is an old building but well worth a visit.

While birding in the Chiricahuas recently I stopped in at the Portal Peak Lodge Cafe for a late lunch. I had eaten here before with a birding group but that was a number of years ago. I was happy to discover it's the same funky and fun place that I recall. I had a vegetarian bean and rice burrito with... More

After a drive over the Chiricahua Mountains from the Bonita Canyon Campground, our friends and we stopped in to the Portal Store and Cafe for lunch before heading back to our RVs. It is a nice little place, in the middle of nowhere, with great food. At our table, one had a grilled chicken salad, another had a green chili... More

Terrific food, particularly when one considers that it is the only game in town. Very friendly service. Now serving beer, wine, lattes, etc! Been coming here for 30 years, wouldn't stay or eat anywhere else.

Nice atmosphere, pleasant owners and workers. Not a huge variety of groceries but a good eating spot

Nice old building in a small town setting. Food good but a little expensive for what you get. Friendly people.

The "Cafe" is a small restaurant located in the back of the store. They offer the basic menu options. The service is prompt, the servers are friendly, and the meal prices are fair.

I came with a birding group that had reservations for two nights, we arrived after the kitchen had closed but they opened the kitchen for us for the full menu, what a nice welcome! Their sack lunches are good and I must say, the Mexican meal I had one night was better than any in my home town which has... More

I have been here many times. It is just about the only place to get a meal in the Chiricahua Mountains. The store has several necessities including a selection of bottles of wine. The cafe is quite good. On the weekends they frequently have specials which are not on the menu. Also often live music. Burgers are great and you... More
