We live almost 30 minutes or so from El Norteno but the drive is most definitely worth it. Not only is the food affordable, but it's also some of the best that we have ever eaten. It has quickly become my family's go-to and favorite place to eat. All of their food is cooked to order instead of being left under a heat lamp. While they may only take cash for payment, the prices definitely make up for any possible inconvenience. The cashiers and cooks are friendly and when I missed a bag, one of them ran to catch up to me so I wouldn't have to come back for the food I left behind. Love this place!

I got a taco salad and a machaca taco and they did not disappoint. The taco salad was almost the size of my head and the taco was super flavorful and the shell was a fresh made hardshell. Added bonus: Everybody that was working was super sweet. Absolutely worth the wait in the heat. I'll be back again for sure.

Wow! What a treat! My flight from PHX to SFO got cancelled, so I rented a car and made my way to El Norteño. Got there 15 minutes before they closed. Ordered a Chimichanga with Carne Asada (rice and beans on the side) and a horchata. So glad I did. Best chimichanga I’ve had in ages. Better than any that I’ve had in NorCal even for twice the price or half the quantity. All meat inside the chimichanga since the rice and beans were on the side. Didn’t even have to pay extra for sour cream and guacamole. Horchata was also very good. If I came back to El Norteño, I would definitely come back. Highly recommended.

This is one of the best machaca burritos I have ever had! Great location downtown, I have driven by here forever and decided today was the day and I am so happy I stopped!

The meals were very good and great size portions. The service was fast and friendly. My husband did not like the Sonora enchilada but only because it was not what he was expecting; I am sure they are very good for a Sonora enchilada. Cash only. They are closed on Sundays.

There's no better place to meet your craving for Mexican food than El Norteno. It's not fancy, but the food, and service, are exceptional. The red chile is wonderful, and where else can you get a red chile burro for $3.50? The chilaquiles, topped with an egg or two with a side of refried beans, will stay with you throughout the day. Their salsa is enough to stop for, as are their tacos and gorditas. Thank goodness places like this are still around. Give this place a try. You won't be sorry.

The seating if one decides to stay is in a covered patio style building with basic picnic style seating. Despite the summer heat at 105 degrees just after noon, there were about half a dozen diners seated and chowing down. Dedicated customers who love the food!
i decided to pick up some food to take home, knowing 25 minutes of travel time with the food in the trunk would result in piping hot food. And, it was.
Their enchiladas are very tasty, full of cheese, lightly sauced, covered with melted cheese, shredded lettuce and cut up tomato. A huge portion of nicely flavored beans and a more normal portion of rice came with. While the sauce had a slight bit of heat to it, it never really went anywhere near on the heat scale, perhaps a 2 on the 10 scale.
i also got 3 tacos to really get a taste of the family recipes: a ground beef with hard shell (best of the 3), machaca ( very good flavor) in hard shell and carne asada (lots of meat with cilantro and onion) in soft shell. All 3 tacos were very tasty, and had plenty of ingredients. Really got my money's worth and enjoyed everything.
Will likely revisit when temps return to decent after October cool returns. These are very good recipes. If You like Mexican food, You will not be disappointed with their food. Total came to just under $15.

You can beat the lunch specials. Great food, great prices! Only draw back is they only accept cash. Taco Wednesday and Taco salad Tuesdays are my favorite. It's like your grandma is in the back cooking with love.

Been coming here since 1997 from time to time I'll order various items and I swear everything is fantastic but the Red chili burrito with or without beans is always my favorite until one day last month I tried the Green and now I have no idea how to choose either so I get both! Yes they are that good!!

Arrived on a "Taco Wednesday" and had the special...tacos, of course. Two home-made hard-shell tacos, rice, beans and a small drink for under $6!!! The food was fantastic, and the price was right.
Come with cash...and a little patience. Seating is limited, so get there early (lunch starts at 10:30am) if you plan to eat there, otherwise take it to go. Daily specials can't be beat.
