1st time at Salty Sow and impressed with the food and ambiance. Even tried brisket which was a roll of the dice for a Texan who thinks all great brisket is in Texas. Wrong! Salty Sow's was as good as any I get at home...in Austin. And everyone of the 6 in our group loved their meal. Can get a little close with sharing a long table with strangers if you don't get seated just as your own group but the ambiance was excellent, the service outstanding along with the eats!More

Lively place. Busy. Live music. Menu has some interesting items. Gets very busy. Reasonable choice of beverages. More expensive than I had expected when the check arrived. Overall enjoyed it.

CRISP CHICKEN THIGHS with mashed potatoes / neck bone gravy! Delicious! So much flavor. You need to try the duck fat fries; did not sound good to me, but the crispiness & flavor won me over. I wish there was one in Washington State!

We were visiting Phoenix and wanted something a bit different than the plethora of Mexican eateries. Somehow I stumbled on the Salty Sow. The ambience was nice and about a half-hour into our time at the restaurant there was live music. When making reservations, we...could have chosen to eat inside or outdoors. Given that the nights are cold (despite the heaters) we choose to eat indoors. Wait staff was pleasant and prompt. My husband ordered the ribs and brisket combo. I ordered the beef shoulder. I liked his brisket, but he thought that it was OK, but not great. He is much more of a BBQ snob than I. On the other hand, he really liked my shoulder. The shoulder was very tender. I wish that we were not visiting PHX as we all would have had plenty of leftovers. So, if you are local - bring along a to go container. The one thing is that this is not really geared at all for children. My son (11) struggled a bit with the menu. I am not looking for chicken tenders or noodles and butter for him, but something perhaps a bit more geared for the younger set would be nice. We settled on their crispy chicken thighs for him. A good option and I have to say I had a bit of plate envy. Unlike the portions, the menu offerings are slim. But I like a focused menu.More

3rd time was not the charm. Having been here before, I made a reservation for Valentine's Day and couldn't have been more excited. Arrived to find they were seating us outside. We did not ask for an outside table, but they insisted we did and...told us we could no eat inside. Was excited to see all the "sow" related items on the menu, but once we got the menu, barely any were there. What happened to the pork items? The new menu read more like a BBQ restaurant than an upscale establishment. We ordered chicken wings, brisket, ribs and pork belly. Almost everything came out dry and if we didn't ask for extra BBQ sauce most everything was too dry to eat. Finally, we had to waive down our server multiple times throughout the night to get anything we needed. Overall, not a great experience. We have visited Salty Sow and have thought the food was great. Last evening I ordered the special, Brisket because I had it before and thought it was great. Last evening the dish came out with six large pieces; previously there were three. Unfortunately the...bulk of the slices consisted of fat and gristle; only one slice was edible. It would seem that when cutting it, the chef had to be aware of cutting through fat and gristle. Was that the reason I given six slices? Was it to compensate for the fat and gristle? I noticed other plates being served that had the standard three slices of brisket. I pointed out the fat to the server and mounted up the remains on my plate. They did not charge me for the dinner, which I appreciate. However, I would have much preferred having three slices of meat; in the end I had about one slice.More

Despite the name, the restaurant has a variety of foods with more than pork as the base! I figured it would be all pork items with a name as the Salty Sow! The French dip and fish and chips were excellent. My sandwich had a...huge helping of beef and great aus jus. The fish and chips were fixed perfectly with a wonderful light batter. The ambiance is a tad bit noisy but well worth the meal. Lots of pig pictures on the walls..definitely will go,back to try another entree.More
