Just ok. Food and drink were all mediocre except the prime rib which was tasty. Atmosphere very much"old bar." The best thing about the place an the reason for 3 star instead of 2 is the service. Fast and friendly.

We were definitely let down. My wife loves Chicken Fried Steak, so when I saw this place has sold about 1 million of them, I added them to my list. First the prices you see on line are way off, the $12.95 dinner Country Fried...Steak is actually $21.50 and the $12.95 Catfish dinner was actually $17.25. I must say both were way, way too much food, they could easily cut portion sizes and prices. The decor that looked interesting on line is actually dirty, stained and really old, in a non-charming way. The food was okay, I think maybe this place is just past its prime. The servers were really nice, helping each other out by refilling our drinks and such.More
Did not match other reviews-we came because of the other reviews and we were hungry. We were so disappointed-my wife did not like the chicken, masked potatoes or gravy. I had the brisket and it was way over done, borderline tough and not tasty at...all. Waitress was attentive but nothing could help this food-perhaps they are resting on the past laurels but we did not enjoy it at allMore
Do not confuse this diner with Texas Roadhouse. This is more of a mom and pop, very cool atmosphere diner. Lots to look at as you are waiting on your food, located in a small strip mall, but if you know, you know. The chicken...fried chicken and the chicken fried steak are the best I have ever had. The chili is amazing also. The coleslaw was not my most favorite, but I am picky when it comes to that. Good biscuits and great mashed potatoes with the most wonderful gravy. I will be back for sure.More
While visiting friends in Phoenix we decided to have a quick lunch, our friends suggested we try Texaz Grill. It was one of there favorites! It was close to where we were staying so we met them there. The hostess seated us quickly and took...our drink orders. While looking over the menu we found that the focus was on “Brisket” so we all ordered an item that included smoked brisket. Everything was great, including the margaritas!!! I would definitely pay them another visit, I really like their smoked Brisket sandwich, texaz fries and fried okra. The staff was very friendly and helpful. The facility was dated, you could tell the had been in business for a long time. Sort of rustic dinner look 😊More
It is a quaint themed restaurant. The staff is great and friendly. 3 menus through the day. The breakfast was outstanding. Very large portions. Great pricing. Went back for lunch. Staff was still great. The food, still large portions. Soon I will be going back...for dinner.More
Thanks for the kind words in your review, we really appreciate it.
We try to hit this place up at least twice a month. I am trying to support as many family and small businesses as possible during this COVID mess. I like seeing where my $ is going! Food is always ample and tasty. Some of...the staff have gotten to know us pretty well. We always come out with a full belly and a smile on our faces. Please remember to support great places like this to keep them going!More
My wife and I and the kids, went to Texas Grill, they still have all the memorabilia from years ago, I had the Chicken Kabob meal, my Wife had the Steak Kabob. Everything was great, the waitress was very quick with everything. I used to...go here in the 1980's and have not been in a while, things have pretty much remained the same after all these years and that is what is great about this little place. I will be back again and again....More
I was so looking forward to an awesome steak dinner. The parking lot was packed - good sign! Server friendly and interesting rustic Texas memorabilia decor. Nice Texas Teaser cocktails. Hubby got prime rib and it was quite good with a lovely smoke flavor. Creamy...gravy on potatoes was good. Biquits and sqaw rolls good - along with simple but tasty garden salad. Then there were the 2 rib eye steaks....quite possibly the worst steak I have ever had. My 20 something son ate his out of sheer hunger - I left over half of mine and declined a to go box. The steak was grey in color - no grill marks, no crispness at all, it looked and cut like rubber. Both looked that way and claimed to be medium rare - but it was a grey pink in side too. YUCK - so unappealing. Then it had no taste "lightly salted" would be a generous description. My son's steak was a slightly less gristly piece = mine was gross with so much stringy stuff in it that I could not easily cut it with my dull steak knife let alone chew it. Seriously how was this prepared - it looked like it was boiled or maybe baked - steaks should have some kind of sear and be pink to slightly bloody inside for medium rare. So so disappointed. Too bad - would like to have enjoyed a $25 steak instead of throwing it away.More
Dear cybertraveler, We were disappointed to see that your meal didn't live up to your expectations. We guarantee our product 100% and would have been happy to have made things right if you would have let your server know about your issues. We specifically do...More
TexAZ has been an institution in Phoenix for awhile and they have staying power! We had Chicken Fried Steak and BBQ ribs (about $15 a plate). They served complimentary bread items which were fine. Wine prices were reasonable for Phoenix at $6 for a glass...of house cab. We could not eat all the food and packed off enough for another meal. . Portions were Texas sized! If comparing their food with comparable menu items in Texas they hold their own. Not great, but tasty and that is a compliment from a Texan. I would go back. Of particular note, the cole slaw was very good. Mashed potatoes and gravy, not bad. The Chicken Fried Steak (petite portion) was plenty to SHARE! As an aside, they have steaks, which looked appetizing, but I did not have one. The prime rib I saw was thick and juicy.More
Thanks a million Phil for the kind words about your visit to TEXAZ. We appreciate you sharing your experience with us and hope we'll see you again soon.
Stopped in at the Texaz Grill for lunch on New Years Eve. I arrived at 11:15 and there were a handful of full tables plus more folks at the bar. Walking in, I felt it was a throwback to a neighborhood bar and grill. Nearly...every square inch of the walls (and ceiling) was covered with photos, old metal signs, posters, hats and military momentos. Casual country music played in the background of the dimly lit bar and grill. I was cheerfully greeted right away, offered a booth or bar stool and ordered their ‘Famous Chicken Fried Steak’. The CFS was easily the size of my hand with fingers spread wide. The breading was nicely seasoned but, sadly, fell off the steak with almost every bite. Overall I think I would order it again tho. The skin-on mashed potatoes were outstanding. Perfectly seasoned, healthy portion and a big scoop of the yummy gravy. I’m also came with a healthy helping of corn and a buttermilk biscuit. The corn was good with the potatoes but the biscuit was very dry, even after the pat of butter. I added an iced tea for a total of $15.20 plus tip. Casual country music played in the background of the dimly lit bar and grill. Return visit? Probably. Best CFS ever? Probably not. Still good tho.More
This restaurant is like a Texas roadhouse with all the memorabilia and decorations they have - business cards on the ceiling and baseball caps hanging from the rafters. We arrived at 6:00 so we had just missed happy hour. The special of the day was...barbecue beef ribs but they were sold out. Our waitress went back to the kitchen and checked. She told me I could have a 1/2 order of the ribs as that was all that was left. The cost would be $9.50 for 3 ribs. The normal order is 5 ribs. I ordered the ribs and my husband had the rib steak. A hot biscuit and roll were brought to the table. Dinner includes the rolls, salad or coleslaw and mashed potatoes with gravy or Texas fries. The salad was a large portion and there is the option to have olives put on top. The salad was good with nice fresh ingredients. The beef ribs were huge and filled my plate. They were decent but I found them to be just a bit too salty and a bit tough. I also did not care for the mashed potatoes with cream gravy. I much prefer regular gravy as I find it has more flavour. My husband thoroughly enjoyed his rib steak and he was pleasantly surprised by how good it was for the price. It was also cooked perfectly and very tender. The service was very good considering how busy they were. I would try Texas Grill again but I would order the Texas Fries next time.More
Thanks for the kind words about your visit to TEXAZ Grill. We appreciate you taking the time to share your experience and we look forward to serving you those TEXAZ Fried on the next visit.
Another gem only known by locals. Decades ago it was known as Lone Star but a big outfit came into town and lawyer-ed them out of the name. Have been eating there since the late 80s. Best chicken fried steak in Phoenix
Thanks a million Gary. Appreciate your patronage for all of those years!
So I feel that I need to put this out here. I was skeptical about the new ownership taking over the place and was worried the food would go down hill. It did not. They do now charge for extra gravy with the Chicken Fried...Steak which is a shame BUT its still as good as ever. Lets hope it stays that way.More
Hey Joe... Thanks for the kind words about us continuing Steve's fantastic ownership. We really appreciate you taking the time to share about us. Just for the record, we do charge for extra gravy, but so did the previous owner so we didn't change that...More
Before I retired out of state I frequented this restaurant for many years. I often referred folks there for the best chicken fried steak in the valley. Returning to eat there after being gone for twelve years my expectation ran high. The chicken fried steak...was over battered and very thin. The service was great. I love the feel of this Texas like roadhouse, but I will not be returning.More
As always if your meal doesn't meet your satisfaction, we're happy to make things right. May have just received a steak that was a little off. We're happy to make you happy.
