I love the green chili Mary Lou. A large cheese crisp filled with tender green chili and folded over. Served with sour cream. This is my favorite.
The Mary Lou is not served at very many Mexican restaurants and is excellent here
I have loved this place in the past, but my last visit was a disappointment. Service was lackluster. Owners were there, spoke to them and they just did not care. This was bad, The house margarita very watered down, we did visit an hour before...the closed, but everything was rushed and/ fried for a bit to long. Not the La Pinata, I know. I don't usually do reviews unless it is really good or bad. I hope I just was there on the wrong night but a $65 for 2 with food and 2 watered down house premade margaritas. Food that would not cut it at Filiberto, and Filiberto's has much better service. It will be a long time before I try again. I am heading to Gloria's from now on.More
I have been eating at La Pinata since I was 15. I am now 57. It was my family's go-to all those years. I loved them and I have tried many. When they moved, however, things changed. We asked the owner about it and she...says they still use the same recipes, but it's different. The nachos were one of our favorites. We tried them twice and they just aren't the same. We came back several times but it's not as good. We found a new favorite after all these years, sadly. It's just not the same food. I miss the old La Pinata!More
I cannot say that this is the best Mexican restaurant in Phoenix (haven't been to them all) but it is the first one I will visit when in town which is not frequent enough. It is also the second one I will visit when I...have time. The cheese crisp appetizer is just hot and tasty. They don't typically have cheese crisps in Florida. I ordered my standard green chili burro enchilada style (in memory of an old friend) and a beef taco (crispy of course). Both were as good as I remembered. Too much to eat but I managed to have no leftovers. Service is always top notch and the prices are reasonable. I always order ala carte to leave room for the main order. I look forward to my next visit.More
We did -take out- Friday night. We picked up our dinner and took it home to Scottsdale. Without exception the chicken chimichanga was excellent. What a fantastic treat after eating store bought fast food for several weeks. The service was excellent, the food was prepared...and delivered in very sanitary containers. We drove from Scottsdale, but was delighted to do it. Highly recommend La Pinata.More
Went to this wonderful restaurant with some good friends and could not have been more delighted. The food was exquisite and fresh. There were six of us and we all tried something different and shared, but I have to tell you that the corn tamales...knocked my socks off...soooo good.
Atmosphere is wonderful..not traditional Mexican; and the service is impeccable. Definitely a restaurant to try for a fair price.More
I had the taco, tamale, and enchilada plate. It was delicious. Biggest tamale I’ve ever seen. Enchilada was good. Taco had shredded beef in it that was delicious. It’s a local place. Nothing fancy. Service was great. Restaurant was full while we were there but...the kitchen was fast. I highly recommend the queso. I’ll definitely eat there again next time I’m in Phoenix.More
Came here with a group to celebrate a birthday. We had a party of 10. We had to wait about 35 minutes to be seated but it was worth the wait.
The house margarita was very good. I had the beef chimichanga. The portion was...huge but so good that I finished it all. Everyone’s food was equally good.
Defiantly with a visit.More
My son and his wife who live in Phoenix just learned of this place and took me there when I visited from Utah. The prices are a bit steeper than our favorite places in Provo and Orem, Utah but the food was plentiful - we...took at least half of each of our dishes home!
We got lots of warm chips and tasty (not too spicy) salsa before our meals came and they came out fairly quickly - we didn't wait long at all. The kids had coloring pages and crayons to keep them busy and a Cheese Crisp that they liked - cheese baked on a big tortilla. It was $7.50 - pricey for a simple tortilla with cheese.
Our entrees were a Chile Relleno dinner ($13), Machaca con Huevos ($12), and a Chicken Enchilada, Green Corn Tamale and Beef Taco ($15). They were all steaming hot and we each enjoyed the taste of what we ordered. My tamale was especially delicious - I'd get that again for sure! I got double rice instead of beans. The rice was the heavy red sauce kind. It was ok.
They all came with rice and beans and a little lettuce with tomatoes. I asked for green sauce on my chicken enchilada and it came out with red. The waiter told me their green sauce is red. That didn't make sense. It was good but I would have liked it with green tomatillo sauce like I requested. Red and green enchilada sauces taste different and I like green better.
The waiter was very friendly and helpful. He kept our water filled and we got refills on chips. The ambiance is pleasant - you can sit outdoors or in. There are tables, booths and a bar. The entrance is at the back of the building and there seems to be enough parking there. It was fairly busy on a Saturday night but we were seated quickly and got our food quickly. I'm sure we will go to La Piñata again!More
