My first visit was in 1984 and while the place has changed a great deal over the years, the current version is really lovely and the special ambiance of El Chorro remains; as do the sticky buns. Service is always on point. The food is...wonderful. The menu is uncomplicated. Drinks are properly made- in other words, they actually contain an appropriate amount of spirits. El Chorro always delivers an enjoyable evening.More

I've been coming here periodically for the last 40 years. So I was a little concerned that the owners had gone too corporate, losing the uniqueness that made this restaurant special. So having not been since pre covid, we decided to celebrate my birthday with...a Sunday brunch. I should not have been worried as this is still one of the best PV resorts. Patio seating is excellent. Plenty of space and privacy in a pleasant courtyard. Seating was prompt. Location was great. The wait staff, particularly Wendy, was superlative. Every server was polite, efficient and in a good mood. This can tell a lot about a place when the employees look and act like they like being there. For the brunch, I had simply the best Huevos Rancheros I"ve ever eaten. The breakfast Tamales were also excellent. We accompanied the food with the Bubbles and Juice mimosas which used an acceptable champagne for the price. A nice little chocolate cake was served complimentary to acknowledge my birthday. Simply put, a great dining experience. Thanks El Chorro!More

Bustling restaurant; there were two wedding receptions in progress when we were there. They do a reasonably good job, considering the crowds they accommodate. The food was decent, considering the crowds, though just adequate at the price point. If you want an intimate dining experience,...you may want to try somewhere else.More

We enjoyed a fabulous meal in an idyllic setting at this lovely restaurant. Serving the Paradise Valley since the 1930’s, this place is filled with charm. The waitstaff are friendly and accommodating. The wine list is robust with some excellent finds at great value. And...the food is fantastic for omnivores and vegetarians alike-the meals are inventive and tasty. An all around great experience! Wish I had left room for dessert!More

We went to El Chorro's brunch for our wedding anniversary. We had a great experience. The setting is beautiful and the restaurant itself is really nice and has a lot of interesting photos. The food was delicious. My wife and I both had the Best...of Both Worlds eggs benedict, which was one with beef filet and the other with a crab cake. The steak was better. It would be better if the crab cake was made with lump crab meat rather than the shredded crab, but the crab cake benedict was still good. It was accompanied with excellent breakfast potatoes and small breakfast salad. We also received assorted breakfast breads, which were delicious. Because it was our anniversary, the restaurant also gave us two glasses of champagne and a small dessert to share. The service was very good and the server was really nice. Drink refills were a little slow in coming, but that is a very minor concern. All in all, a great meal and worthy of an overall five-star rating. We will be back.More

Very disappointed! I have been eating at El Chorro since 1973. It is a classic, iconic restaurant with incredible atmosphere inside and out. But something is happening that is not good. Management seems to have forgotten what El Chorro stands for. We were very disappointed...in the selection of Prosecco and the lack of French or Italian wines by the glass. Classic entrées, such as the Chateaubriand, have been removed from the menu. There are very few appetizers and salads to choose from, in fact, my wife decided not to have one because nothing sounded appetizing. We both ordered the filet mignon and hers was very good, but mine arrived and looked like a small medallion. I sent it back asking for a reasonable size steak, and it took 25 minutes for my new steak to arrive. It was not very good. Management’s response was very disappointing and did not leave us with confidence that any of these issues would be addressed in the near future.More

This was our first visit to this iconic restaurant in celebration of our anniversary. The setting is beautiful, situated between Camelback and Mummy Mountain with large outdoor patios, lots of cacti, bougainvillae and Spanish elements. For our entree, we had a special of the evening...which was sea bass in a creamy polenta and it was delicious, cooked just right. The beet salad was also very nice. Service was excellent and the pace of the meal was spot on. It was also a nice gesture to receive a complementary cake for our anniversary. Will definitely be back.More

This establishment has been here since the late 1930s. I am a native of Arizona. I grew up in the Arcadia area. And have been going to El Chorro for 50+ years. I bring visitors here. It’s one of my favorite establishments! But when we...went on March 25 for dinner..5pm reservation.. We were very dismayed to find out there is no more happy hour. We traveled from Peoria, Arizona to meet my son. We got there one hour early at 4 o’clock. We were told, “we don’t have happy hour anymore because of Covid” . What?? We were told, “you can go across the street to mountain shadows” . And so we did. How sad! This is a beautiful property, with a wonderful happy hour menu always. Beautiful patio spaces. What a waste! How disappointing! I don’t understand? Sitting outside isn’t safe to do in Arizona? What is this? This is ridiculously crazy!More

We love this restaurant and make it a point to dine there every time we visit Arizona. This visit didn’t disappoint! Our waiter Joe was delightful and respectful. My husband “won” with his entree choice of broasted chicken. It was tender and moist, the garlic...mashed potatoes were perfect with the entree. I ordered halibut with fettuccine and caper & butter sauce. Delicious, but the halibut was a tad over done for my taste. The atmosphere is just beautiful…an outdoor garden filled with beautiful plants and twinkling lights. Good food, nice ambience-we love it!More

I went with my family for a 62nd birthday celebration on a Saturday evening at the end of February. I have eaten many times at El Chorro and always had an excellent experience. On this occasion our waiter, Ryan, was fantastic and the food service...was excellent as always. I am writing a negative review as El Chorro has converted their restaurant lounge to an event centre for weddings and parties due to high demand for events beyond what they can handle with their existing event space. During the high season in winter they book events Friday, Saturday and Sunday. The lounge is directly next door to the patios where everyone eats with virtually no noise segregation other than a low wall as the lounge is open to the outdoors. When you are attempting to have a quiet evening it is impossible as the music is so loud from the DJ's that you cannot even have a conversation on their East patio. It essentially ruined our entire evening. You can book on the South patio where it is a little quieter, however it is still loud enough that El Chorro cannot play any dinner music in the background and your $100+ per person dinner will be accompanied by loud thumping DJ dance music - not my idea of a romantic evening out. El Chorro needs to decide if they want to be a high end dining experience or not regarding use of the restaurant lounge for loud events. At the current prices being charged for dinner I will not be going back on a weekend as there are many other choices for fine dining in Paradise Valley and Scottsdale where my dinner conversation is not competing with weddings and parties.More
