Liang Pi was super refreshing when it's hot outside and was pretty authentic. You gotta add some dark vinegar to it though in order to get some extra kick. Lu Rou Fan and dumplings were on par with what I've had in the US.
For Tempe, I have to say this was one of my favorite places I’ve had Chinese food so far.
This restaurant is in the Mekong shopping center and is small in terms of number of tables.
I would definitely order the xiaolongbaos, the beef noodle...soup, and the Dan Dan noodles. All dishes were great and tasty as if I was on the west coast in SF eating Chinese food.
The only reason why I didn’t give a 5 star review was the price as some of the dishes were a little pricey. Also they didn’t tell us they charged an additional service fee for 6 or more people and they still asked for tip which was a pretty sneaky thing that they did. So warning to future diners if you’re eating with 6 or more people!More
We lived in China and were thrilled to find this small restaurant specializing in noodles in the Mekong Plaza. Four of us shared a selection of dishes which were all excellent and transported me back to Beijing. Service was very good and can't wait to...return.More
Having lived and worked in Asia and China it is not difficult to recognise good authentic Chinese cuisine when you eventually come across it. After reading a limited but positive review of the restaurant we tried Happy Bao at the first opportunity. We had the...House Xiao Long Bao (soup dumplings) the Signature Dumling, Dan Dan Noodles, and Hunan Spicy Pork - all excellent with the stand-outs being the Soup Dumplings and the Hunan Pork, which were seriously good and I would go back for those dishes alone! The service was excellent with our waitress Chloe being attentive and efficient. Happy Bao missed getting an Excellent because it doesn't serve beer or wine. While tea works wells with lunch a cold beer would certainly be a great addition for dinner. Highly recommended.More
We ate here for probably the fourth or fifth time last night, in spite of the fact that it is a 45 minute trip from our house on the West side of Phoenix. This is a small and unpretentious little place, but the food is...GREAT. We had the pork ribs and they were tender and delicious. I always have the rice porridge with peanuts. Great dish and this is the only restaurant in the city where I have ever found this Asian staple. Companion had a spicy noodle dish, also delicious. Total cost, with a 20 percent tip (the service was outstanding), $28. (!) A bonus of going here is that it is located in what I guess one could call an Asian superstore, Mekhong Market. Great grocery store. Lots of restaurants. A gift store.More
Usually it's a good sign to see a place packed with local diners, so that made our visit disappointing. We tried several items, but the dumplings were too doughy and neither the chicken nor pork belly entrees were better than average. One-and-one for this stop.
