My wife and I visited Mendoza twice, and both times we dined at Cordillera Vinos y Fuegos. Excellent both times.
I don't have much to add beyond what other people have written here. Very good steaks, excellent service, nice decor.
However, I'm giving the restaurant...3 stars instead of 5 for the following reason: I really don't like the "cava" concept that you find in some restaurants in Argentina. I.e. and e.g.: instead of giving you the wine list, Cordillera restaurant insists that you follow the waiter upstairs to their "cava." First, the cava at Cordillera is not in the least bit charming. It's basically a large closet. Second, and more importantly, in these situations, one always has the impression that the waiter is trying to upsell you. One is always lead to the very most expensive wines first. There is a certain pressure to purchase something above one's usual price point. I think if a restaurant has a remarkable cellar, it can be a very nice experience to be INVITED to visit. The sommelier can then walk the customer through different options and its possible to have an educational and interesting conversation about the wine. But this should always be an OPTION. I do not like it when I am forced to accompany the waiter (not even a sommelier). This has occurred at a few restaurants in Argentina, and I find it distinctly unpleasant. I came to the restaurant to have a nice quiet meal; if I wanted to go to an overpriced wine shop, I would have done that instead.
So, that's my complaint. However, I certainly enjoyed everything else about the experience. The food, ambience, service are all 5's. Next time, just give me a wine list, preferably with a knowledgeable sommelier.More
