We found the Barbaro accidentally it's located behind the NH Lancaster. We stopped for a cold beer and decided to eat but we're told food didn't start until 6pm. We went back at 6.30 and the place was full, we sat inside surrounded by the art works and watched as tables and chairs were passed down from the balcony to... More

We were there late in the evening in winter. When we entered, it was like leaving a teletime machine and arrive in a café of the 60's/70's. Pay attention to the art works on the wall - it's like a little art gallery; People were friendly and we got to know Barbara the cat, the princess of the bar. We... More

Friendly service, well located. Kind of quiet place in the middle of the busy city center of Buenos Aires. It took a little while to be served and the food was very greasy. I still want to try another day. It was well recommended by a friend and maybe I wasnt luck the other day.

Our first day in Buenos Aries and we were lucky enough to find this place. Being January we sat outside but the air conditioned inside is stunning with murals on the wall and a dark atmospheric feel. The staff are friendly and we managed with our bit of Spanish and their bit of English.

A bar or a restaurant? Maybe a bistro. Friendly service, relaxed clientele, excellent, excellent food, cold beer, a good wine list. What's not to like? Great location, too, for going on afterwards. Recommend the beef, recommend the fish, recommend the soup.

Lovely place. Off san martin. I came here 2 years ago. And had to come back for the tortilla espaniola ( spanish omelette). A complementary empinada came whilst it was being cooked. A great taste start. I am here at a major convention and most other places have anglo's in them. This one was free of them. A true local... More

On 5th March, 2015, we visited this place for lunch. We started walking from Amerian Hotel in the same district and after crossing many sidewalk cafes and bars, we located this place as it was quite crowded at around 2 pm! We could not get a table outside and we were shown a table inside. The menu card was in... More

This bar/café is a little gem. Staff are friendly and happy hour is until 12 midnight. The food looked fresh and lots of locals stop by on their way home for a beer, a chat and some food. Free peanuts and mini bread sticks. Great place to sit outside and people watch.

This bar/restaurant was one of my favorites! It reminded me of the bars here in Baltimore City. The service was friendly and fast. Prices were good and the menu had tone of great food. It was off the beaten path, tucked away on a alley street right next to my hotel NH Florda. I went there to end the night... More

We happened on this cafe without knowing it was a neighborhood hangout by some of Argentina's top contemporary artists who are featured in many modern collections throughout BA. Jorge De la Vega, Ernesto Delta, and Romulo Maccio to name a few, and de la Vega painted a window mural. My friend had a Biff de lomo (tenderloin) which was excellent.... More

Staying in Retiro

Neighborhood Profile
Retiro
Exquisite palaces and luxurious apartment buildings combine with art galleries and exclusive boutiques to make Retiro the perfect spot for those who enjoy sophistication. However, the non-stop foot traffic to and from Retiro train and bus terminals, accompanied by the myriad of trucks leaving and arriving at the port, mean this neighborhood is never truly at rest. One minute you are walking down a street dotted with ornate mansions and luxurious shop windows and the next you find yourself surrounded by a sea of people racing to catch their train or bus. It is this juxtaposition of never-ending comings and goings and quiet, elegant luxury that defines Retiro, as well as Buenos Aires, a city where sharp contrasts are all around.
