I've been going to Plaza Mayor since I can remember (early nineties) and it never disappoints. Food is superb, even if pricey. My only complain (if any) could be that on some occasions they didn't have all the fish they offer on the menu, but the waiter always knows a good second option to offer. The mussels and the tapas... Well, we should have known. There were some dismal reviews on TA but they were from a few years ago, so we thought it was worth a try. However: 1. English menu had no prices, prices were only on a hard-to-read fan-shaped separate menu, and correspondence was unclear. 2. Waiter tried to push paella, cost was ~4x other menu items.... More

As it was New Year's Day a lot of restarants were shut and after some careful research and trip advisor-ing we came across plaza mayor and I must say it was exactly what we were after. A traditional Spanish restaurant and food! The service was very very good until it got that little bit busier then you were kind of... More

The place is always full. The food is great, the service not quite so. I specially recommend the "Tortilla a la Española" (potato and onion fritatta with chorizo and peppers). They make a DELICIOUS "pannetonne", that can be had for dessert or bought whole to take home.

We went for dinner and had the paella, it was good but I definitely expected better. For dessert I had "zapallo en almibar" with whipped cream, that was excellent.

We visited the Plaza Mayor twice during our stay in Buenos Aires. It is a fun place to stroll through. We were told it is perfectly safe during the day, but not so at night.

We went on a walk and passed this plaza. It is so lively and it is amusing to see all the things happening around and all the different persons passing by.

Great reception, friendly and helpful staff. Excellent device throughout dinner. Everyone enjoyed their meals and there was enough of each for everyone to sample each other's.benjoyable desserts, The baked apple in red wine counts as one of your 5 a day. Really good wines reasonably priced. Well worth a visit. Especially if you want a beak from steak or Italian.... More

In a perfect environment, although the tables get quite close to each outras.Bom service, often with the owner in the lounge giving everything. And really typical dishes properly prepared Spaniards. The menu comes in the form of a fan which tells the history of this instrument.

Staying in Montserrat

Neighborhood Profile
As part of the historic quarter of Buenos Aires, Montserrat is defined by the historical events that took place there and the landmarks that have stood the test of time. The Plaza de Mayo is at the center of this connection to history: countless public demonstrations have passed through this square, going back to the May Revolution of 1810. Walking the streets of Montserrat allows us to imagine what Buenos Aires may have looked like in the past: the Cabildo takes us back to the late 16th century, while the Palacio Barolo and the traditional cafés carry us to the early 20th. Nowadays, the neighborhood is inundated every day by office workers, buses, and taxis; still, the cobblestones, narrow sidewalks, and subway stations from the 1910s remind us that we are surrounded by history everywhere we look.
