Recent family lunch visit to Kleine Zalze to celebrate daughter’s graduation. Excellent location with inside and outside seating in a scenic environment. Restaurant menu and wine list is excellent - with friendly and professional service throughout. Located a short drive from Stellenbosch - but well...worth the visitMore

We visited Kleine Zalze Restaurant on 18 December 2020 for dinner. This was our first time visiting since the renovations (the restaurant was previously known as Terroir) and the change of food philosophy. The Kleine Zalze Restaurant now features an array of hot and cold...tapas dishes along with a few larger main meal items where as it was previously focused on fine dining. We sat outside under the trees and had a beautiful view of the gardens. It has a casual and relaxed vibe which is lovely and different to many other wine farms. The service was excellent and the staff were all very friendly and welcoming. We enjoyed the complimentary bread course which featured a lovely light whipped butter. We proceeded to order a range of both hot and cold dishes including the calamari, mushroom "sosatie", beef fillet, yellowtail pastrami and the caramel pear. The mushroom sosatie was the standout dish. The umami and smoky flavours were divine and the mushrooms were very tender and almost meat-like. The yellowtail pastrami, calamari and caramel pear were also all delicious and we would definitely recommend these. The only dish which could have been improved was the beef fillet - it was very dry and flavour combination with the melted mozzarella did not work for us. We finished our meal off with a dessert which featured a chocolate ganache, sourdough ice-cream, caramelised banana and a yeast cracker/crumb. The elements all tasted great individually and even better when eaten together. It was not overly sweet and the contrast of textures was very enjoyable. Overall we thoroughly enjoyed our experience and will definitely be back to try out some of the other dishes. The wine, as to be expected from Kleine Zalze, was superb and very well-priced. We had 6 dishes in total between the two of us which was sufficient, but the dishes are so yummy we'd recommend 7/8 dishes for two people.More

Perfect venue for a summer lunch or dinner. A variety of hot and cold tapas complimented with a plat du jour accompanied by a glass of wine: the sirloin steak is fabulous. Child friendly with plenty of lawn to play on.

We started with a wine tasting and chose an excellent Family Vineyard Chenin to accompany our meal. Service was excellent as was the food, despite the small portions. Being resident in South Africa, I did feel that the prices were very high and seem to...follow the strength of the dollar against the rand, i.e. maintaining a dollar price for the tourists, who would find it reasonable, no doubt. The outdoor setting is very nice but there was no view to speak of.More

Fine dining resteraunt next to the winery. Food and service were fine. However be careful all the deserts had nuts in them. Prices are also European standard, a lot more expensive then other resteraunts in Cape town and the other resteraunt next door.

We already come to this fantastic restaurant with lovely atmosphere outside for 14 years. Now prices are to high and portions become smaller.
