Lunch under the trees. Spend a quiet Friday lunch outside in the courtyard. The food is okay - not spectacular. Staff were efficient and friendly.

Food good, but disappointed that so many of their other choices were taken off the menu. Also that on the entertainer app menu shows prices but on the actual menu at least 35% more. Not cool.

Overall disappointing lunch. The Risotto ordered by my daughter was a large bowl of mushy rice a minimum portion of the ingredients stated on the menu and the mushrooms smelled off , I also had a taste of the mushrooms and we both had unpleasant...after effects when we arrived home. Totally overpriced at R150. My granddaughter rated the chicken pie good. The other two meals were average. Neither the owner / manager came near our table to ask whether everything was ok.More

Visited for the first time and totally loved this restaurant. Off the beaten track, lovely setting and an excellent menu. Polite, efficient and friendly staff made our visit very memorable.

We thoroughly enjoyed our meal at this old Cape Town eatery. the service was good Sadly the decor really needs some attention . it is out of date, the chairs are uncomfortable and the plastic coated table cloths were a bit of a put off....I really hope that the owners put some TLC into the space as the menu offerings and wines are well priced and superb !!More

I stayed at the Protea Cape Town Mowbray Hotel and it was just a minute walk to The Wild Fig Restaurant, where I enjoyed dinner twice. I liked the feel of the restaurant. Jenny was very kind and attentive. The food was absolutely delicious. Pretty...presentation and so tasty.More

The Wild Fig is nestled in an old Dutch building across the gravel and overhanging trees from the Protea Mowbray Hotel in the Observatory district of outer city Cape Town. The long approach road past the government psychiatric hospital takes you opposite the entrance to...The River Club, and the national Observatory, both on Leisbeek Avenue just off Observatory Road. The road takes you along the Leisbeek River park path with lawns, parking turn-outs, and draped willow trees begging you to stop, and set up a picnic basket. If you miss the signs and arrive at the Chinese Association campus then turn around and trace your steps back 100 meters. The restaurant offers a traditional Cape Dutch inside and outside seating under the natural flora canopy. The team is staffed by food service professionals from the back of house, to the floor to the kitchen. No "international backpacker wait staff" need apply here. Only the true professionals can work here and deliver consistent quality as does Wild Fig. Our adventure started with a Google search for new (to us) vegan friendly places, and resulted in a phone call, a "special order" and the best vegan ratatouille served in the decade or more of living in the Cape. No mistakes. No lost orders. No missed reservations. The Wild Fig delivered everything they promised including the vegan meal.More

We were looking for a place to eat on short notice late on a Sunday afternoon and came across this gem. It is located just off the N2 next to the Protea Hotel in Mowbray. The area could be a bit scary a night, but...there was a car guard to keep vehicles safe. The restaurant was busy so service was a bit slower than anticipated, but the food was worth the wait. Our daughters had the Cesar salad and the chicken pie respectively which they thoroughly enjoyed. My wife had the mushroom risotto which was a hit with her. I had the goat curry, which was absolutely amasing. The meat was soft and tender and the Cape Malay flavours a real delight. It did however miss the sambals promised on the menu. It is a bit on the pricey side, but we will definitely return for a special occasion. On the entertainer app that makes it a bit more palatable from a pricing point of viewMore

We are an international group of well-travel ed friends who regularly dine out at Cape Town restaurants and we recently had a meal at The Wild Fig - and it was a sad disappointment. The food was way below standard and three of our group...who ordered the monk fish sent it back because it was barely cooked and did not taste fresh at all. We then ordered roast pork and it was equally badly prepared and tasted off. In fact, I had to rush to the toilet and was violently ill halfway through hacking through the pork. Our sympathies with the manager and staff who tried their best to sort it out, although it was not their fault at all. I will not recommend the restaurants to any of my friends.. The fact that you only had two tables reserved for lunch on the day we were there tells its own sad story!More
