The re-launch and re-decoration of the Mount Nelson restaurant from what had become a slightly tired Cape Colony Restaurant marks a great improvement. Food is excellent (though it was before as well), wine list is outstanding, waiters are courteous, service is outstanding. This is one of our favourite restaurants in Cape Town, and one to which we regularly return. At... More

I had high tea at the Mount Nelson and found the prices very high for what they offer.

Always have a wonderful time at the 'Nellie'. The gardens are very peaceful and beautiful and the food always good.

The 'Nellie' has a nice terrace overlooking the gardens where an extensive and very reasonably priced cocktail list make for nice pre-dinner drinks. Cocktails range from around 50R, which for a 'grand dame' hotel is amazing.

World class cuisine at sensible prices. Attentive but discrete service from friendly waiters. If you like fine dining, I'd give it a try!

We were staying at the Mount Nelson and had heard this place was good so we tried it one night and it was ...OK. Good service, wine was fine and the food was nicely presented but lacked any pizzaz (so did the menu, in my view). No regrets but wouldn't recommend it too much.

A very grand treat! High tea at the Mount Nelson is an event not to be missed. A table groaning with the most fabulous treats ... and a selection of teas as a perfect complement.

The grand old dame! Go there to stay if you want to be in a tranquil upmarket city setting. Beautiful gardens, steeped in history, colonial feel and it has been launched into the 21st century with the Planet Bar and a few other nice touches. High tea is still a firm favorite although rather costly.
