Excellent sundowner in the famous Vilakazi street, with a variety of African dishes from the buffet or the menu, drinks galore...and good music in the background!

Popular Vilakazi Street restaurant which serves an African inspired buffet with drinks service to table. You will most likely be greeted by owner. Friendly staff, good service. Popular as a lunch stop for tours. Centrally located in Vilakazi street so you can take in the sights and sound of the street. A stone's throw from Mandela's and Tutu's house.

South Africa is a place of many cultures, many friendly faces and a huge variety of food. And when you decide to visit South Africa and especially Vilikazi street you can not afford to miss Sakhumzi Restaurant. Get yourself an ice cold beer and enjoy the vibe of South Africa. The food here is good considering where it is situated near Mandela's old home. The buffet is local and varied, it is rare to find a place that serves local food. The food here is what I would expect in a South African household, there is food from most of the South African culture groups. The dessert was my favourite... More

The restaurant is spacious and comfortable. Offering a great variety of food where the menu caters for western and African food. The ambience is great, with background music

Before to visit Mandela House, I took a lunch in this restaurant with some friends. Vilakazi Street does hot have so many restaurants therefore, we did not a lot of choices. The restaurant is quite big, fast service and there is a buffet where everyone can bring the food by yourself. The price should be around 160/70 rand with a... More

This seems like an authentic tourist trap type of place. The food is salty and greasy. Dessert is the best part. Three of our party of six developed the runs within hours of eating here. Watch for the ice cream scoop rinsed in water...or better still, skip it.

Bad service. Bad food. Mostly rice no chicken. Only accepts cash. You never get a receipt. No amount is ever rung up in the cash register.

As a born and bred South African it was good to visit Vilikasi Street. I had heard a lot about this famous street and the all the restaurants situated in it. It was good traditional South African food, as expected, served in the the traditional buffet way. The restaurant has tried to keep the decor and furniture as simple as... More

Food is average but service absolutely atrocious. Sitting for an hour after finishing a drink and no waitress, no plates to fetch food and not a single friendly word. Unacceptable especially for a business dinner.
