This place is frequented by people from all over the world who come for a taste if Soweto. The walks are covered in leave messages and pictures guests leave which is a precious sight of people coming together. I do feel that the initial aim to give people a truelly African experience, has been watered down to commercialization. A mucisian... More

Stop by for a beer or lunch and really feel the Soweto experience in a neighborhood famous spot. We only had beers but the local food looked great. Well worth a stop.

I was at Wandies for lunch on 28th December 2015, with 5 other people, at 13h00. Despite the fact that the entire "tourist route" in Soweto was extremely busy, we were the only customers in the entire restaurant, and no one else arrived during our stay. The restaurants in Vilakazi Street were 'humming". There was no atmosphere, compared to what... More

Our driver on the Soweto tour took us here. They offer a buffet with local dishes that look genuine. There were some dishes I really liked, others I like less. When the bill came they asked if we'd pay for the driver as well and then they made sure we did not forget to tip. This practice gave us an... More

We were taking a tour of the Soweto area and wanted to take our guide to lunch. There were restaurants close to Nelson Mandela's and Desmond Tutu's homes; however we asked our tour guide to take us to his favorite place. We went here and we're so glad we did! The food was tasty - warmed on big pots on... More

Wandles feels very authentic because it is. Authentic Soweto food is served here by very friendly staff (one told me that it provided him an opportunity to earn some money not from a salary but from tips). In spite of that I felt that the food was not that great but it may be just a matter of preference.

The very tasty food is traditional local South African cuisine, served right from the pots and all you can eat. The atmosphere is historic and most interesting. It looks like this place is well accustomed to tourists as well as locals, and after a few minutes of being there, I can certainly see why. We left filled and happy....oh and... More

While on our private tour of Johannesburg and Soweto, our guide suggested the restaurant. He explained that it was originally a shebeen which were illegal pubs during apartheid. By the time we arrived, we were starving as it was around 1:30 in the afternoon. Our guide called ahead to reserve a table although it was not necessary given that the... More
