When I looked this restaurant up it had mixed reviews so I thought I’d add mine. My wife and I were in the area and stopped by Sunday evening without reservations. It was very busy so we thought there would be a long wait. The...hostess asked us to give her just a minute. She advised that all the tables with a creek view were taken by those with reservations but they could seat us at the bar immediately. In other words, they were very accommodating. I got the Sedona burger with prickly pear and cranberry slaw. My wife got the Vegetarian Burger with sweet potato fries. Both were very good and the wait time to get them was not long at all. We were able to check out the view of the creek before we left and it is beautiful. The bar tender was very friendly and the conversation at the bar was very inviting. We would definitely come here again.More

Excellent view of the creek and birds. I enjoyed watching the guy walk along the plank to fill the bird feeders. Such dedication! Service was A+. The food was delicious. I had the chicken sandwich, and my husband had the beet salad. Both delicious. Saved...the best for last. Creme brulee is one of the best we have had. Excellent wine selection. I wish we had the pleasure of hearing the owner playing the piano. A must-stop if you are in the area.More

Very disappointing from the moment we walked in for our reservations. Treatment by most of the staff was sad and unwelcoming. Didn't get offered our seat or a drink at the bar. Just left us standing. Bartender finally sat us, but after discussing our options,...opted to just leave. Didn't feel we would get a good meal or service. The place was 3/4 empty, so being busy wasn't an excuse. Unfortunate, as we are local and used to enjoy this restaurant.More

You were sat before your reservation time. Sorry you were so put out. Cheers!

Beautiful setting but service was certainly lacking. Waitress was new and not properly trained. Manager seemed stressed and disinterested. Food was good but don’t know if worth second visit.

I haven't been in a few years and then I remembered why. Just a little above average all around. Nothing very good or excellent except the wilderness location. Even the owner/chefs attempt to impress patrons with his average piano skills was just above average.

To insult my food is one thing. To insult my music is another. Please, please, please, NEVER come here again. You obviously don't get it. You are an average person!

Don’t judge a book by its cover! From the outside you might be hesitant to enter but I can assure you the food is absolutely delicious. FOOD: You will find a wide variety of appetizer, salads as well as Steak, Pasta Duck, Etouffe and nightly...specials. Deserts are all homemade. The Grilled Artichoke appetizer, Goose Contif and Pasta were all very good and we would order again. DRINKS: VERY Extensive Wine Menu as well as a Full Bar DRESS CODE: Casual PRICE: $$-&$$ and worth every penny ATMOSPHERE: Casual. Laid Back. The farthest from Fine Dining even though the dishes are. Creek views are visible from almost every table. We watched the ducks below and saw the Red Wing Black Birds give us a show as they came to the bird feeder right outside the windows. RESERVATIONS HIGHLY RECOMMENDED We will be back!More

WIfe and I had dinner at Up the Creek. About ten minutes from Sedona but plan your dinner time around sunset because the drive is beautiful at sunset. Even though its out of town down 89A, we got there in the same amount of time...from our B&B as driving through town to a restaurant on 179. The junction of 179 and 89A is a mess around 5 p.m. Prices were much more reasonable than the two other restaurants we visited Bella Vita was overpriced and food was not good and Creekside Bistro - food was good but about $10 a plate more than Up the Creek. I had the Lamb and it was very good. Big helping cooked perfectly. My wife had the pasta dish and didn't like it. But we saw other tables order Duck, burger, salmon and all looked amazing.More

We were camping in the campground next-door as we couldn’t get in anywhere in Sedona and decided to try this restaurant. What an amazing surprise! We travel full time so we eat in lots of fine restaurants in different cities across the country and we...had an incredible meal here last night. I had the rack of lamb and my husband had the duck breast. And probably the best creme brûlée we’ve ever had (my favorite dessert so that says a lot). Both meals were superb. Next time we are in Sedona we will definitely be coming back. Good wine too, I had a really nice rioja. 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼More

This has to be one of the best hidden gems in all of Arizona, if not America. Venison, Duck, fine wines in the middle of nowhere? (No offense). Directly located adjacent to Oak Creek, in wine country, in the vicinity of Cottonwood AZ is a...spectacular restaurant that is outrageously wonderful. Book in advance, (or you won't get in) sit at the bar, learn from Mario, one of the owners, about their fabulous wine list, then order entrées you can't find in Scottsdale, and if you're lucky, the other owner Jim, aka Chef, will entertain with world class piano playing. Seriously outstanding in all regards. This is not Capital Grill or Mastros, it's better. Yes, the others have better furniture and decor, but not the type of food and service you will find here. Probably one of the best experiences of my life.More

Would agree with other recent summer 2021 reviews...not the quality level of service or food that has been the reputation of this restaurant. We were disappointed.

We made a reservation as I requested. Arrived at the time and we’re met by two tired looking servers who were disagreeing on which one would take our table. Mind you, this was 12:00 and lunch service. The place was also almost empty. We waited...20 min for water and were told we could not order a winetasting a flight.Server then Told us that we could order a flight since another couple was ordering a flight and she did not want to acquire a table with one and have us complain about not being able to order one. It was all quite odd. We ended up all leaving. I would not recommend this restaurant. At the scenery is pretty, but the service is horrible.More

We know this restaurant only takes reservations, so on a whim we called an hour before they opened to see if we could get in for lunch and left a message. We received a call back and they said yes, come at 11:15. We get...there and no one wrote our reservation down, so we stood at the door for 10 minutes while the owner fretted and almost refused to seat us. While we were seated the owner was moving tables and chairs around us and arguing with the staff. Not exactly conducive to quiet dining by the creek. The kitchen service was slow, the duck legs were over cooked and if there were 4 thin pieces of meat on my gyro special, I missed one. My husband had the western burger and that was the worst barbecue sauce we’ve ever tasted. The bill for lunch including tip was $77.00 For two appetizers and two entrees with two teas. I don’t mind paying for great food, excellent atmosphere and friendly staff, none of which we experienced here!More

We travel full-time now that we're retired and, thus, spend many hours in restaurants around the country. We often spend a month or more in Arizona and love the hiking, river trips and birding. But, unfortunately restaurants are NOT an Arizona strong suit! UP THE...CREEK IS AN EXCEPTION!! Put simply, it is by far the best we've experienced in this state. I think it's the attention to detail that's most impressive. We watched as Mario actually polished the wine glasses and rewash one that didn't sparkle. The windows are massive and look onto the riparian ecosystem along the river, so everything is gloriously green and the birds that come to the feeders along the entire length of the restaurant are fabulous fun! Hummers, finches, and even a Black huge Black Hawk with it's signature white tail strip, came by to see what was for dinner! The wine list is thoughtful and nicely rounded; great choices from around the globe. Our waitress was stellar; attentive, prompt and observant. They were out of the wine I ordered and she brought me a sample of her recommendation which turned out to be perfect. Our food was well prepared, beautifully plated, and correctly served. My husband loved the Buttermilk Pie; I thought it was nice, but did miss something chocolate to go with a nice dessert wine. Actually, we're making time to go back once more before leaving for new adventures!More

We didn't know what to expect. We only found it on our drive back to Cottonwood because several of the nearby wineries were overcrowded and had no tables for wine or food for a couple hours. It was like an oasis in the middle of...no-where. Well, not quite the middle of no-where but you get the point. Despite no reservation, we were seated at a table with an okay view. The tables closer to the floor-to-ceiling window have an amazing view of the creek (hence the name of the restaurant). The menu, both food and the wine list, were extensive. The wine list was maybe a little too extensive because it was difficult choosing a wine. Thankfully, some of the better wines are sold by the glass. The food was excellent, the service gracious and the wines were as we expected. Our only complaint was the lack of bread, no coffee or dessert was offered, and no manager gave over to ask about our meal. This restaurant is highly recommend. It's just too bad the location is so isolated from Cottonwood and Sedona since wine and driving don't pair well.More
