Had to wait for a table. It was a busy night. I didn't feel like having anything fried, so my choices were limited. I went with a pecan mango salad but there were not enough greens in the salad. The chicken was cut up in...tiny cubes. My husband had cod & chips which was dry. Unfortunately there is not a lot of choice when it comes to restaurants in Valdez. If you are in the mood for pizza or something fried, you may like it. I saw some impressive onion ring baskets going by.More

Really really poor service. We were seated; then asked to move. We did and got put in behind the ice machine. Then our server totally forgot about us (her words) and we had to beg for our check. I was ready to just walk out...without paying. Well I paid and asked for the manager. There was none. I explained to the waitress why she did not get a tip; the first and only one I stiffed in two weeks up there. She just shrugged her shoulders. Food wasn’t all that. They don’t careMore

Ate twice here during our 5 day stay in Valdez. Very good food. My wife and I were able to bring home extras and enjoy them for lunch the next day.

Stopped by on a Sunday afternoon to try the pizza and local beer that had been mentioned in earlier reviews. The restaurant was a little busy, but there was no wait for a table. The wait staff was extremely friendly, but not very attentive during our...visit. Our poor experience began with some badly burned cheesy bread (see picture) and a long wait for our beer. The pizza was good , although it wasn’t warm throughout, it was much better reheated in our air fryer the next day. The waiter did have them remove the cheesy bread from our bill , which was greatly appreciated. As far as the location and ambiance, the restaurant is well decorated with a great location overlooking the docks. The poor rating is related to the apparent lack of quality assurance on behalf of the waiter, management, and chef along with the long delays for services. I might try this place again, but only after seeing a large number of better reviews.More

After the long drive from Fairbanks, dinner here was quite welcome. Staff was super friendly. Beer options were excellent. There were many food choices, many of them fried fish and fries, but that's what we wanted. Food was not amazing, but it was quite good.

Loved eating at The Fat Mermaid. The food was good and the server was excellent, and the place was clean. Had the Salmon basket which was good. Our tour had a free night and this is where we decided to eat and was glad we...did. You won't be disappointedMore

We ate here twice for dinner during our stay in Valdez. They are open until 11 pm (but apparently only serve pizza after 10 pm) which made them one of our only choices based on the time we got back from excursions. The food was...good and they had a great selection of items on their menu. The first night we had seating outside on their front patio which had great harbor and mountain views but was a bit chilly (although for the locals, it was a beautiful day - sunny and mid 50’s). Waitress the first night was very attentive and friendly, the second night wasn’t as much, but we did come in right before they were closing up the kitchen for pizza only near 10 pm. The waitress took our food order immediately so we could get something other than pizza, but we had to flag her down to order some drinks which she seemed kind of irritated about. (Maybe I’d get irritated too working in a place that caters to tourists all day!). Prices were comparable to everywhere else we ate in the Kenai Peninsula - for the 3 of us that traveled the total was around $100 - most items on the menu are in the mid $20 range unless you want some of the other seafood - halibut everywhere was in the upper $30 for sandwich or fish and fries. I’d recommend the restaurant and would go back to eat there again if I ever return to Valdez.More

A drizzly Sunday but a nice lunch at The Fat Mermaid. Friendly wait staff welcomed us. Pretty good local beer selection and a variety of menu items. Plenty of burger choices and fish baskets. Everything was served hot and efficient service. We ordered rockfish basket...which was a good-sized serving, along with an order of Pad Thai (plenty for another meal). Enjoyed our meal.More

Usually very good but tonight after a long day of fishing, we got back to our room and discovered our pizza was burned. We will probably go back as we come to Valdez fishing several times during the summer but we were disappointed tonight.

8 of us had breakfast here 2 days ago. While they only had one server and we were not the largest group there, service was pretty fast and very friendly. The chef also pretty organized as all our food came out relatively quickly, was hot...and most importantly delicious. I had the salmon eggs Benedict on rye. Excellent. I wish we could have gone back for dinner as they had several Asian entrees such as Yellow Curry, Pad Thai, and a Korean beef bowl. They do not take reservations though so our tour company would not use for dinner.More

Crowded when we arrived as several bus tours were in town. Short wait for a table but no server came. We finally asked a server at another table if she had our table. She sent over a young woman. Once our order was taken, food...and drinks arrived in timely manner. We had grilled Alaskan Halibut and it was fantastic. Served with French fries and coleslaw. All very good. Large portions, Had a long wait trying to get our bill. So food was fabulous but service was lacking. (In fairness, this is currently a universal problem due to lack of help)More
