Great beer range

Really good service, great range of craft beers, and a nice welcoming atmosphere. Although I only ate dinner here (the pork belly and kim chi entree was delicious), I imagine it would be an awesome spot for a cold drink after a walk in the national park or a bike ride on the Old Coach Road or... read more

Another holiday, another few meals at the Powderkeg. We had both burgers and pizzas, enjoyed both. Great range of beers. Service was good, especially the wait staff when we had a sit-down meal. Prices are very reasonable. The best bit is that there is such a variety of places to sit down and enjoy yourself, whether you want to be... More

We stayed at the hotel and ate here both nights. The staff are very pleasant and efficient. Stud seems to be the manager and is very hands on. It is a popular place to eat and there were people coming from outside the hotel to eat here.

I have to start by admitting I have ben a fan of the Powderkeg for many years. Our last visit on Saturday lived up to my expectations. They have a good wine and beer list, the food was delicious and service was prompt and attentive.

4 of us for dinner in the offseason so reasonably quiet. Clean and attentive staff and premises. Food very hit and miss. Steak very nice. Burger very nice. Pizza looked and tasted like a plastic wrapped supermarket variety. No way was this base made on site. Topping had nasty minced ham and was very dry- little to no sauce. For... More

Thank you so much for giving us the opportunity to let our TripAdvisor readers know that the Powderkeg has been operating for over 25 years. We have and always will make our own pizza bases. We have been fortunate enough to have the same pizza chef for many years. The cost of our pizzas range from $22 - $26 and... More

We visited the Powderkeg for dinner and drinks after doing the Tongariro Crossing. We were in need of a big feed and we weren't disappointed! The menu is amazing and it was hard to choose. The majority of the menu could be made gluten-free as well which is fantastic for me as a coeliac. I had so much choice! I... More

Everything we ordered for dinner was delicious - the leek and potato soup ($12), onion rings ($8), beef nachos ($16 - a huge order!), and green lipped mussels ($16). A bottle of Odyssey Pinot Noir was $50. And there is a nice selection of beer. Good place.

It was the first time for us to visit here in off-season time. We managed to get a table without booking, it was lucky. We ordered our fav menu Pork ribs. The taste wasn't the same as we remember and came cool and dry. The service was slow, everything took time even getting a glass of water.

We called in to see if the grandchildren's specific needs could be met and we were welcomed. Made the reservation and were back for some delicious meals. Always appreciate the pencils and drawings, thanks for going to the effort to supply these.

Just been to the Powder Keg for tea. Ben and his excellent team made us feel very welcome and provided excellent service. Colouring in pencils were provided to keep the children occupied, which was greatly appreciated. As usual the food was of an excellent standard. The Powderkeg is definitely the place to go when you are in Ohakune.
