Group of 10. General feedback great beer selection, good atmosphere food okay. Lots of chips with burgers and burgers just okay. Nachos okay. Too much hoisin on the chicken wings. A little slow service but busy lunch time as not a good snow day. Waitress said the Tuatara Helles beer a Pilsner but actually a Munich style lager.

Bars and restaurants to suit all tastes and kids welcome. Upmarket accommodation too. Big chunky wood furniture and carvings a special feature.

The Powderkeg was a great experience. I wasn't expecting such a great atmosphere (warm, friendly and relaxed). The log cabin style has been beautifully styled and has a wonderful ambience. There is two types of restaurants- downstairs where bookings aren't taken (no wait time on a Sunday night) and slightly more formal upstairs. I would guess you would have to... More

Food itself was lovely, but slightly pricey. I won't hold it against the Powderkeg that their maître d'hôtel (?) was condescending to our group of four, bragging about how HE got to ski the slopes on Monday - when all the tourists have gone home! Nice one, mate! Thankfully a girl then tended our table for the rest of the... More

Great food and drinks selection. A central fire by the bar sets the scene. Friendly, accommodating staff, can't fault it.

Expensive at the bar and the menu. Great ambience and when the fires are on its a great place to meet and greet friends. To be fair there are a lot better restaurants in and around Ohakune that prove better food at better prices.

We visited on a Friday night and it was busy and noisy. Good service and reasonable menu but food was pretty plain for the high prices.

The menu here is varied, good portions and well priced. Fast service. The atmosphere is busy and warm, could see it getting rowdy at times. Cooked breakfast was well done, perfectly poached eggs, crispy free range bacon, butter with the toast - just lacked a relish or something to break the eggs dish. Our spicy chicken pizza and nachos were... More

Went there last night, the girl from the front desk seems to be reluctant to greet or serve customers, too busy playing the computer/booking system, then finally I've been shown to a table, with menu dropped on the table, then that's it. Menu is boring, nothing appealling, but I decided just ot order something since I was hungary. Then waited,... More
