If you are looking for a modern, refine, up class restaurant, you are in the wrong place. But if you want typical Spanish food, unpretentious but solid in taste and well executed, you are in the right place. We had "croquetas", which were delicious, and "pimientos del piquillo rellenos", a delight. Mention apart, the meat. They mature it for several... More

The guy who appeared to be in charge of this place could hardly disguise his dislike of us, the waiter was frankly embarrassed at his antics as he created a throughly noxious atmosphere which regrettably spoilt our evening. So good for him, he won. The "translation" app on our phone wasn't good enough for these guys and we tried really... More

Walked to this restaurant from our hotel to make reservations for dinner. I asked politely if he spoke English. He immediately said "No English" I asked for reservations for dinner in the little Spanish I know. He kept repeating "No English". I finally understood. No one who spoke English was welcome there. In 14 days in Spain, this was the... More

Hard to find as only a small sign outside indicates it being there.Superb and hearty food, great house wine and a set price make this worth the hunt. Full of locals enjoying a slow and relaxed meal, with beef being particularly popular. We felt happy to be 'in the know' thanks to previous reviews on Trip Advisor.

The food here is brilliant, much like a lot of good restaurants in Spain. But the local speciality, chuleton was outstanding. A huge beef chop, grilled to your liking is the order of the day and it was succulent and delicious. Think 1.5 inches thick and a foot long! My wife is a slow eater and the waiter even took... More

We chose this restaurant based on reviews here, but were a little disappointed. We chose croquettes for our first course. There were two different kinds: ham, which were very good, and another kind (chicken?), which were only so-so. The chuletón de Ávila (steak) was massive (way too much for the average person to eat) and much thicker at one end... More

We deliberated a lot about where to eat in Avila as there didn't seem to be any stand out choices other than the No1 spot but that was booked out for a private function. There is no way that we would have picked this one if we're not rated so highly on TA. In a quiet back street and with... More

We saw the reviews for Los Candiles on Trip Advisor and thought we'd give it a try. We were not disappointed. We started with gambas al ajillo and queso manchego. Both were great. The chuleton de Ávila was really, really big, and the chuleton de buey was absolutely huge! They were prepared great and both had really good flavor. To... More

The biggest and one of the best steaks (Chuleton) I've ever had! It was cheap considering how big the servings were, and how good the food was. We shared our food and still left full, and like a previous reviewer, didn't have to eat dinner. The service was good.

Imagine a cold wet day and you're tired, wet, cold and hungry and don't really know what you want to eat - you push the door and find yourself in a rather ordinary dining room and then - the waiters take over and fill you up with a warming tasty Castillian soup, a steak like you've never had before (tender...
