My husband and I had a late dinner at AJ’s. We both ordered the New York strip steak; mine with goat butter and his with shrimp. We also ordered the Cesar salads. We asked for a wine recommendation from our server. The salads were just...ok. I’ve had much better at other steakhouses. The steaks were excellent. And the wine our server suggested was a wonderful pairing. It was a great meal. This place is not noisy, which I loved. We could actually talk over our meal. The service was excellent as well. Great dinner in a classic Homer. Favorite for tourists and locals. The place was packed and we didn't have a reservation. The host was SO kind and eventually got us two seats at the bar. We had amazing kodiak scallops and wonderful halibut fish and...chips. It took a LONG time for the food to arrive but was totally worth the wait!More

Live entertainment a trio with a fantastic harmonic player We just ate there for our 54th anniversary no entertainment but we had great food,great waitstaff. My family of five showed up without a reservation one evening while on vacation. They were packed, but the gentleman who greeted us at the door worked hard to get us a table as soon as possible. We were so glad we waited! We all...got different dishes (3 types of seafood as well as a pasta dish and sandwich) and they were all excellent! My grilled salmon was some of the best I had on our trip. I also liked the Alaskan beers they had on tap. This was the best restaurant we ate at in Homer. If in Homer again, we will definitely be eating here!More
I knew this was a higher end restaurant, and it was. But it was full of locals celebrating and eating their good food, always a good sign. Service was impeccable, food was very good, and the ambience was nice, although very loud. Definitely recommend it...- just be prepared for the higher bill at the end.More
This place is truly a hidden gem - service was excellent on point and very friendly. We had a smoke salmon appetizer with homemade chips - yes it was great! I had the special filet with salmon pattie w/ mash potatoes and broccoline - wife...had the soup and salad - all of the food was fresh and excellent. Popped in at 5 pm on a Wednesday night to have some dinner. No tables available, but we could sit at the bar. Great dinner, my wife had a sirloin and I had fresh salmon.
The food at this restaurant was well prepared and absolutely delicious. Steak, seafood, and prime rib were all done as requested and tasted delicious!
AJ’s has been our favorite restaurant for years. We will drive over an hour just to eat dinner there. Lately, we have been less satisfied with the meals. We always order the steaks and the meat is great. But for the price of their food,...the sides are not great Usually mushy cooked veggies. The mashed potatoes are ok. The he atmosphere is lovely and most of the time so are the servers. Darryl is always kind and friendly. But for the price, and the lack of food served, we will not be making the drive.More

If you are in Homer, Alaska, then having an intimate/cozy dinner at AJ’s with your spouse/partner or even your group of friends- is an absolute must! The food is incredible and so is the service! It has a locals only small town vibe that just...feels so cozy and good to be in! I had the filet with scallops and oh my goodness! The food was absolutely incredible! So good it felt sinful to eat! AJ’s is definitely one of the top 3 places to eat in Homer, if not the best!More

This was our first visit to Homer, if you’ve never been—-GO, you will not regret! Your own slice of Heaven on Earth :). With that said as the review below so aptly put ... “Drive on by”. This restaurant came as a recommendation from the...local VRBO owner we were renting from—-by default as most other restaurants closed for season. Given the price tag in comparison to what delivered to your table/offered; this establishment operates under the misnomer they are the infamous “Morton’s Steakhouse” (if you’ve never been to one, go!) minus the classic/contemporary unmatched ambiance, bustling bar scene, elegant, sophisticated dining rooms people would be proud to dine/celebrate in—-and more/most importantly, quality control over preparation/execution of succulent meals. AJ’s you are not Morton’s. You may have your local/regulars duped, but not this seasoned well versed/traveled family. This is what my family and I received for the total price of $168.00: *. 1 hour wait for meals to be served—-and upon that, only one meal was delivered the other two 20 minutes later with a brief, I guess apology and an “oh, it looks like the chef gave you an extra chicken finger and again “oh” looks like the chef gave you an extra piece of fish”. For the record portions quite nominal—-can’t imagine what would have been received without the extras. Also for the record, there was no way I was even going to begin to eat (mine the first meal received) without my family first having their meals. *. My meal @ market price: A piece of steak no larger than a deck of cards and 6 oz of scallops totaling a number of five that were no larger than a nickel, several asparagus spears and a small 2x3 baked potato. I later learned this meal alone was $82.00. Mind you, I don’t have issue with the price tag, provided the quality/quantity of food received is equal to and or justifies the price. * Chicken ”critter” meal ie chicken fingers served with burnt shoe string french fries the texture of which reminiscent of Andy Capp’s fries from the 70”s. If unfamiliar with, they look like french fries, but crunch like chips. I also might add the ranch dressing provided with small included dinner salad had gone bad. * Fish & Chips meal at a price tag of $32.00. the five small pieces of deep halibut provided had a bad taste. Upon all at table sampling it as determined the oil deep fried in was rancid needing to be changed. I might add the shoe string fires included with this, also burnt, also reminiscent of “Andy Capp’s”. * The coup de grâce was the coffee/dessert ordered (I know, I know we should have known better). The coffee too bitter to drink, the cream provided with—-thick, none of us had ever seen anything like it, the apple pie, nearby “Safeway” supermarket bakery quality, my husbands cheesecake, well, I guess that might have been the most tolerated meal of the evening as he gave it a “seven” * Lastly the service, the ladies here friendly and GREAT. None of any of the above their fault and or were attributed to them. In summary, go to the McDonalds just down the street, literally a stone’s throw away. We wish we did and or had known about.
