I only only had one dinner there, Octopus Plate, it was terrible, in my book. It was one the most expensive dinner on the menu. The location of the restaurant is very unique, one of a kind, the kind of place everyone should go at...least once.More

Halibut Cove and the Saltry are a must visit. Take the day to get away. Well worth the time. First is the transit on the Danny J. We had such a great time, Skull Island (our nickname) Gull island was a great view of local...birds nesting. Then we pulled into Halibut Cove. Just so relaxing, the Capt and Crew were the Best. The saltry is named after the herring salting houses. Marion has done an excellent job putting a fine touch on the selections from the menu. Great food. Thanks for a great day.More

Dinner was enjoyed by everyone. We relaxed with cocktails, appetizers, then Halibut dinners and a delicious chocolate dessert. The Riesling and Pint Noir were the perfect match for us!

We travelled to The Saltry on the Danny J for lunch on a warm sunny day. The trip is great and the location and setting for the restaurant is fantastic. Don't expect large portions and the menu is fish oriented, so if you don't like...fish you will go hungry. Go here for the whole experience and accept the limited options of running a restaurant in such a unique and out of the way location. We travelled around Alaska for 3 weeks and this was my wife's favourite eating experience!More

My family and I celebrated my birthday there with a great lunch! The view is breathtaking and the food is very good! I had the shrimp & grits. I highly recommend this dish as it was delicious :)

We took the Danny J over to Halibut Cove for dinner on a cool overcast late afternoon, a 45 minute trip each way. Boat was driven slow enough, all 25 passengers sit outside, so it was not cold and we saw sea lions and many...birds. A pricey cab fare but very unique, scenic, and worth the experience. It started to drizzle when we arrived but not enough to get wet. The boat is equipped with rain jackets for those passengers who did not bring any. It was a little cooler on the return trip and the boat has blankets for the passengers if needed. The restaurant was not ready to seat us immediately upon arrival so we walked along the boardwalks to a couple art shops. There are also a couple of trails to a vista area on another part of the island. It is a very peasant, quiet, and scenic setting! For the meal, the halibut was very good, a little dry for our taste, but still moist. Providing 2 medium size rolls for the four of us seemed a bit skimpy, especially when we saw tables of 2 get 2 rolls. Service was adequate, the 2 servers were quite busy serving the 25 of us. Adding another server would have moved things along better. Sitting along the rail, above and next to the water would be the ultimate dining experience but since it was drizzling off and on, all of us sat under the enclosure which is still outside but like a big, high roofed cave. There is even a fire pit in back of the dining area but a fire was not needed that night.More

Hi Bill, Thanks for your review! We are glad you had a good experience. You mentioned that 1 more server would move things along, and as a matter of fact, we are short 1 server due to unforseen circumstances. We usually have a fire in...More

Let’s face it. Tourist places have tourist food and some are better than others. We all know that. Way over priced here for the quality. Skimpy meal and not flavorful. If you go, you will over pay for average food. Halibut was dry and nothing...special.More

We've been to Homer many times and finally made it to The Saltry in Halibut Cove. We found the food and service good although service was a little slow to get started. Otherwise, the servers were pleasant and did a great job. Although the menu...is limited, the fresh fish can not be beat. The Seattle foodies in our group found the mussels some of the best they had ever tasted. My black cod in the ramen dish was very good, but the broth a bit bland. The appetizer platter was a hit. Good food and service, but the attraction is the location and view. It is an extraordinary location and the Danny J captain and crew did a great job of getting us there and back to Homer.More

This was my 5th year of going to the Saltry and as usual, I was not disappointed. The weather was absolutely gorgeous and the meal was fabulous. I ended my meal with a new treat this year, the Irish Cream Creme Berle. Will be back...again next year!More

There were 5 adults and 3 kids In our party. We live In homer and we’re entertaining guests from out of town. We took our own boat across which almost always effects the experience at the saltry. (They like you to book with the Danny...J. ) We were disappointed to find that there were only 4 lunch options on the menu and no kids menu other then halibut or salmon on top of noodles or veggies. We ordered the cinnamon vodka lemonades that were pretty tasty along with the app special, muscles and oysters. App special was missing half the choices. We arrived before the rush of the Danny J and service and food was slow. One person In our party ordered the grits and had good things to say two of us ordered the salmon salad sandwich and wouldn’t do it again. One had the tacos and thought they were okay. A few of us ordered the roasted red pepper curry soup and not one of us could eat it. It was next level hot. So hot you couldn’t even eat it. Don’t order this soup !!! All three kids split one order of plain noodles. With that said we walked out of there with a $500 bill including the tip..... the cove atmosphere is really something special but the restaurant experience itself is mediocre ......More
