Beautiful old mansion with lots of outdoor dining. Friendly quick service. The Executive menu at lunch had lots of good options. The trout was delicious, and so was the chicken breast in honey mustard mushroom sauce.

Great food and service. We really enjoyed our experience at Cafe Mundo. Menu has something for everyone on it. The portion sizes are large and the desserts were fabulous. You must order the pecan pie! The wait staff was exceptional with a good sense of humor. COVID precautions taken with hand sanitizer and masking. Patrons were seated far apart in different rooms. Highly recommended!

Great food, lovely setting and excellent service! Perfect pasta and wonderful caprese salad for a late lunch.

The food was okay. The service was the worst I ever had. Once the food was served I never saw the waitress again. I had to go to the bar to order a drink and twice to get water. Never received any service. I had to find someone to pay the tab. No service.

I just came back fro dinner at Cafe Mundo.
I must say, the food was much better than the last time I went three weeks ago.
In fact, the last time I went, I was so dissapointed with the meal, I wrote a scathing revew.
Apparently the manager/owner read my review, and replied to me saying she was sorry and if I came again I would find it much better.
Well, she was as good as her word, because tonight's Surf And Turf was as good as it was in the old days.
The famous "Cafe Mundo" is back in business.

It was very bad. We ordered 3 pizzas, but all of them were very bad. We are still hungry. We called them, but the service was also very bad. Not recommended!

Most important, it is situated in one of the safest neighborhood of San Jose. After our plane has landed and have safely arrived at our hotel in the same area, where we usually stay for no more than two days before heading to the beaches, we usually walk down to Cafe Mundo for a drink outside on the terrace followed by a quite satisfying meal if not gastronomic. Though, I must say, one day I experienced one of the most delicious soup I ever had. It was years ago but I still remember it. Great place on all accounts.

I have visited costa Rica for 25 years. I have visited cafe mundo many times over the years. It use to be a great place.. Great food.. Great service.
Well.. Not anymore. We waiting for a long time to get food. We always had to ask to have our water glasses filled.. We got a dessert menu and waited 15 mins before he came back to take our order. I went to go find our waiter.. No one really seemed to care about anything anymore.
The next table waited 30 mins for their check and to pay.
The quality of the food has also declined.
A female manager came over to the table to apologize.. Making excuses for the service. Too little too late. I will NEVER return to this place.

Nice ambience. Went for lunch, sat on the big wrap-around porch. A Monday but business was brisk. Service quite good. Started with a complementary plate of 3 kinds of bread with olive oil on the table. Good breads. Ordered 2 appetizers for my lunch as they sounded appealing. A seafood melange in white wine sauce and a plate of vegetables tempura with a sweet/sour sauce. The seafood was very over cooked. The sauce was tasty. Indifferent presentation: a piece of lettuce with shredded carrot dumped on it and some toasted baguette. The tempura was the real problem. The breading was so thick and tough it was difficult to get to the vegetables. I returned it but it wasn’t taken off my bill. That lunch and a cup of coffee came to over $24. I don’t think so.

Nice restaurant
The food was pretty good and well presented
We did feel however that the service was a bit impersonal and the restaurant atmosphere was rather cold.
I’d return for the food but that’s all

After a long tour, this was a really nice finishing post.
The setting, the food (although on the high end), the restaurant space, the service... really was a great evening.
Food was spot on! Not 5 star but hey, those clowns live in the clouds. Great food. Cocktails were free flowing and well received. All of us enjoyed our food... My steak was muy muy bien.
The building itself is an art-piece...
I've travelled to San Jose many times. It's definitely not my favourite place in the world... But, if I ever come back... I will always eat here !

For anyone who wants to eat at a gregorian style house with convenient location, this is the place! The downside is that the owners recently raised the prices. there're a nice and cozy atmosqhere inside this place.

once again we were taken to this restaurant as part of an all included tour and we were given a choice from a set menu. The staff were very friendly dealing with people with no Spanish and they with little English.
They served a selection of home made breads which were delicious. Starters were limited to soup or salad, neither of which was particularly tasty. From the available choices we had barbecued chicken and tagliatelle carbonara (large portion but very tasty with lots of bacon). Cheesecake, tiramisu or ice cream as dessert.
Drinks sold in colones - beer 1,750 and a glass of good Cabernet Sauvignon 4,000
Very good meal.

A wonderful setting with very attentive service. The house wine, a Merlot, was very good.
The food while good was slightly disappointing. The portions were generous to a fault.
I’d recommend it but with a slight reservation. I would return for the ambience and perhaps choose my dishes more carefully.
