A very welcoming open courtyard in the center of the hotel mansion was a great place to have a Costa Rican breakfast and Costa Rican coffee before heading to the La Fortuna/Arenal Volcano area. Food was very good and authentic. I had the Huevos Rancheros...and my wife had the banana pancakes. Yum!More

I’ve only visited for brunch, and I have many ‘favorite’ brunch places in San José. But if you want to make a special occasion out of it, this is it.

One of the best restaurants in Costa Rica. Great food and service. Nice ambiance. A little pricey. Prices are comparable to a good restaurant in the US, but you won't be disappointed.

Exceptional restaurant in a lovely boutique hotel. Take a look around at the details-the furniture, the drapery, the artwork, the bespoke lamps. Then sit down and relax into first class service and a thoughtfully crafted meal. If they are offering the Chef Tasting menu which...is several courses with wine pairing, I highly recommend it!! It was a Top 10 best meal in the world for me.More

Dishes use many local ingredients and flavors but also honor traditional fine dining. The food is presented and executed at a very high level. While not inexpensive, you are rewarded with everything you would expect for fine dining.

The last time we travelled to San Jose was quite a few years ago, prior to the hotel/restaurant’s renovation. Our memories were of the original intimate hotel, where we had previously stayed. The restaurant has transitioned to present an impressive old world setting. The service...and environment were to be positively remembered. We had a most enjoyable evening, and were it not for one item, we agreed it would have deserved a 5 rating. The four of us started with appetizers - caprese confit and mushroom Napoleon. While not huge, were quite enjoyable. The surprise was the complimentary vichyssoise with smoke salmon - quite delicious. Two of our entres were pasta dishes - well prepared. The other two entres were the roasted Costa Rican pork. This dish would have been perfect, had not the tenderloin been a bit overcooked and on the dry side. It was this dish that kept us from the 5 rating. It was a restaurant you would want to return to. The service was comfortable, the setting relaxing, and all courses were presented well. We plan to return, as the we saw other dishes that we would like to try, and hopefully the pork entre was a one evening fluke. For four people, including drinks and desert, the evening cost came to $140 US dollars.More

One feels like they have gone back in time when leaving the modern lobby of the hotel (with the same name as the restaurant) to enter the rich, dark wood decorated restaurant with elegant place settings and heavy white tablecloths. The food was delicious. We...split an arugula, chickpeas, and walnut salad appetizer. For main courses, we had a medley of three fish and a baked sea bass with cashew nut glaze that was accompanied by a lovely Albariño white wine. For dessert we had a delightfully different chocolate cake and vanilla ice cream along with glasses of Port. The service was wonderfully unobtrusive and helpful.More

Costa Rica is a very informal place. He will not need a jacket but I would not go there in shorts during dinner. But otherwise no one will bother you if you wear jeans or other informal wear.
