We spent six days in Costa Rica and our best meal in the entire country was at this restaurant. We were staying at the hotel so it was an easy walk. I had the Lomito (pistachio encrusted steak) cooked medium rare and it was perfect....The atmosphere was also very pleasant in the courtyard. The only thing that detracted from the experience was that the service was quite slow. Slow to order and then the waiter never checked back with us to see if we needed anything. We would dine here again if we are ever back in San Jose.More

The attention to detail and wait staff was absolutely amazing! I felt like a VIP! The food was delicious and the cafe mocha/mochacinno was the best I've ever had. Great wine selection. Very beautiful restaurant.

We ate at Grano del Oro for a special birthday lunch. The cocktails and food were delicious and the courtyard setting was charming. The service was attentive and discrete. There was a good selection of vegetarian dishes on the menu which was nice to see....The desserts were excellent too, especially the chocolate sphere.More

restaurant can use a refresh (fabric tears, stains). Service nice and reserved vs. pushy and loud. Varied menu; fish, seafood, meat, pasta. Decent food. Nice courtyard has a few tables and heat lamps. Old fashioned half circle tables for some.

Incredible meal. From the moment we were seating in the grand wooded room overlooking the courtyard, we felt incredibly lucky to be dining here in such old world historic charmed environment. The staff was attentive and helpful and every course we incredible. We loved the...ravioli bolognese which was better than Italy and the chicken breast was moist and fantastic. The wine list extensive and the deserts are wonderful. This is michelin quality at a fraction of the cost. The chef must have studied in Europe. For sure the best in Costa Rica.More

I had an early dinner here on January 8, 2022. Food was ok, but not commensurate with the $50 cost (appetizer caprese confit and beef entree). Service was mediocre if non-attentive. The best about the meal was a dessert “Tres Leches”…. But for the dessert,...a 2 star.More

We were there for breakfast on Xmas day. The elegant surroundings and upscale service far outweighed the food and high prices. But i will definitely return.

We enjoyed our lunch so much, we stayed for three hours! The head chef has been at the hotel for 27 years (and the hotel has only be open for 30-odd) - the food was beautifully presented and tasted excellent. Plenty of choice, even for...my vegetarian friend. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend dining here whether for lunch or dinner and was lucky enough to have been given a tour of the hotel as well - if you want somewhere to stay for a couple of nights in San Jose - pre- and/or post-tour of Costa Rica, or for business, it really is a great spot and a lovely hotel.More

Out of all the restaurants I've eaten at in the last 5 years this dinner I had tonight with salmon, a sauce that was unbelievable and fresh asparagus topped all of them. Add to that an exceptional staff and an interior that's old, beautiful made...of wood... we spent our time looking at the beauty of the building while we were waiting for our food This is a place to visit no questionMore

A beautiful environment with excellent food, impeccable service and a decent wine list. Everything was top notch and nothing was lacking. I was very impressed with the wait staff. They were discreet and in the background but incredibly alert. We ordered the charcuterie, tagliatelle and...a melt in your mouth lamb shank. The courses were perfectly paced from start to finish. Not rushed and not slow. Highly recommendMore

Very elegant place, beautiful restaurant, perfect service, food was good but not spectacular, I'm afraid. It is a french restaurant, and it is not cheap, so most people will go by this to call the food amazing, but I feel it is what is in...your plate that counts and I have had better. Compared to what is out there in San José (not that I have tried everything), this is a good place to have a meal. Eat here if you can.More

This was our very first stop in Costa Rica, straight from the airport! The staff was really nice, the ambience was really calm and the place itself it’s elegant AF. I really liked my choice for my lunch, except for the red cabbage that was...on it (but that’s totally personal 🤪). You can expect enough portions (neither too much or too little)More

Costa Rica is a very informal place. He will not need a jacket but I would not go there in shorts during dinner. But otherwise no one will bother you if you wear jeans or other informal wear.
