This lovely café in the beautiful Teatro Nacional was a breath of fresh air in the hustle of San José. The carrot cake was one of the best I've ever had, and the service is empeccable. You'll love spending your afternoon here.

The Alma de Café is inside the National Theatre and the service was quick yet not hurried, the atmosphere had marble statues and busts on the window sills and the food was exquisite. We took our time to eat our meal and then had some of the most delicious pie and cake one could ever hope for. While the meal... More

Amazing desserts. We ordered the Teatro al atardecer sándwich and the palmito with mushrooms crepe. They were absolutely fresh and delicious. My husband had the apple pie and I ordered the fig cake. The pie was excellent but the cake was heavenly. We visited this wonderful establishment twice and, I am sure, we'll be back!

We had a scheduled tour of the National Theater at 1PM but arrived before lunch. With time to kill, we chose to eat at this restaurant located off the lobby of the theater. A group of six sat together each couple ordering and paying for their respective meals. The wait staff separated our bills quickly. My wife had a Crepe... More

Had lunch here because of great reviews. The cafe and lobby of the building are lovely, ornate and old European. I loved the gold ornate trimming, statues, marble and ceiling paintings. I ordered the spinach crepe which had the unappetizing consistency of melted cheese. The filling was tasty but the side salad was tiny and covered in bean sprouts. My... More

We've enjoyed the coffee selection on the menu, prices are reasonable and food came out very quickly. Lovely ambiance for a before or after visit to the theatro.

One) it's in the National Theatre which means it's worth going into. Two) the coffee is superb. It's tastefully presented and yummy. It's a great place to stop into during the middle of the morning or mid day.

Went on the tour of Teatro Nacional. When we finished it was close to dinner time. We noticed a cafe on the right had side of the lobby on our way out. I decided to run in to look at the menu. While I was looking at the menu the rest of the group came in. We all looked at... More

This cafe is inside the theater, the beautiful " teatro nacional". It's very beautiful and it has the original chandelier that was originally inside the theater. I had a nice dessert there! When you enter, its on the left, opposite the store.

As recommended by our hotel, we lunched couple times at Alma de cafe during our trip. The food, the drinks are very good. Recommended : puerto viejo, sarapiqui drinks, smoked salmon & avocado salad, lasagna, flautista. To die for: Crepa rille a de chocolate! It is inside of the national theater which is a historical building with amazing decor. A... More
